Description Damir Perisa 2004-09-29 20:29:33 UTC
Version: 1.1 (using KDE 3.3.0, Arch Linux)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.2
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-mm4

there are a lot of things, that are not (yet) in amazon.com and not everyone has time to scan the covers to the computer

it would be great to be able to import a cover from a URL the user provides

this way, if you have a regional CD (one, that was never published on the international market and is not existent in amazon.com), you would be able to provide a URL to the image on the internet somewhere else than amazon.com (e.g. an image of the cover from the official site of the band or so)

You can, in the cover manager, right click on it and chose "Add custom picture". Then you could just go to the webpage and download the picture localy to your computer. Then you add that file you just downloaded.

yes, you can - but it is not one-step but a lot of steps

when you search for a cover and it is not found, then there is a button to specify a file on your local filesystem --- what i request as feature is the same on the same place, but accepting URL's and not only local files --- this way, you can copy a location of a pic in konqueror and paste it in amarok in this mask directly - amarok then downloading the pic and using it directly

There's a patch for fetching covers directly from amazon.de instead of amazon.com. (http://mitglied.lycos.de/booo123/amarok-1.1-amazonde.diff)
Perhaps it would be nice if the user could select his favourite amazon-site in setting.

Greets,

Tobias

And personally I would like to be able to select 'fall back' locales or be able to select another locale at the failed search dialog.

I also tried to have the "select cover image" manually dialog retrieve an image off a remote site. But it can only handle local files. I thought this functionality was built into KDE? It would be very nice.

While, now amaroK has support for different locales. Not Japan, because amazon.co.jp apparently doesn't know the difference between books and music.

But we should probably focus this wishlist on what Damir was actually asking for, a network transparent "Set Custom Cover".

Feature now in CVS.
