Description meyerm 2004-09-16 13:45:33 UTC
Version: 1.7 (using KDE 3.3.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.1 20040803 (Gentoo Linux 3.4.1-r2, ssp-3.4-2, pie-8.7.6.5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-ck7

Don't laugh - it's true. And I don't know how this could happen or how I can reproduce this. Perhaps you're still interessted.

The progressbar in my kmail just showed "-1%" and stayed there. Opening the new cool "subprogressbars" works normal - also the percentage counter. But the main progressbar stays at "-1%".

As said before, I cannot reproduce it for now. But I hope this gives you a hint where to look :-)

I've seen this one as well when cancelling a task. Did you cancel a task as well?
Comment 2 meyerm 2004-09-16 13:59:39 UTC
Hmmm.... *brooding* No, I don't think so. I let kmail download my mails in the background and wrote a mail. But my network is not very reliable at the moment. Perhaps a task timed out? The problem went away after restarting kmail. Sorry.

I can confirm but I also don't know how I've been getting it. My guess is that either -1 is hardcoded as some default value (In which case a simple search will do), or a function call is failing and thus returning -1. I'm sure someone who knows the kmail source code well will know where to look. -1% should never be displayed. In terms of a progress bar, -1% just doesn't make sense.

Just a note, I've only noticed in Kontact (not while running kmail alone) though I doubt that has an effect.
Comment 4 David Faure 2004-09-21 11:47:06 UTC
-1 is the value that is set when the progressbar shouldn't appear at all.
So the bug isn't the -1 value itself, it's the fact that the progressbar is actually
visible while having that value.

On kde 3.4 beta1 (kmail 1.7.91), this still happens.

I've been able to reproduce it when using suspend-to-disk. Upon waking up from suspended state, kmail complains about my imap connection being broken. Then clicking around in my imap folders gave me the "-1%"-value in the progress bar in the bottom right of kmail.
Note that my imap connection was actually working again when this happened.

I cannot say anything about reproducing it -- just use KMail often. From time to time when fetching new mail it starts from "-1%".

I can confirm it in KDE 3.5.5 KMail 1.9.5 Debian Etch.
Can post a screenshot if desired.

Just saw it on my KMail 1.9.7, embedded into kontact, from kde 3.5.7 again.

Kmail showing progress bar with -1%

I can also confirm this bug. It seems to occur after a suspend/resume cycle.
Restarting kmail helps. Screenshot posted for confirmation.

Just in case anybody still looks at the 3.x-versions: still present in 3.5.10.

No report for the KDE 4 line? Haven't it seen since then either. So this is probably fixed in KDE 4 - and KDE 3 is unmaintained.
