Description arimar_te 2004-09-14 16:01:14 UTC
Version: 0.8.0 (using KDE 3.3.0, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.108-default

I have not been able to reproduce the bug, but Kontact crashes almost every day once while sending an article to a newsgroup. I write the article and hit the send button, Knode opens the connection and suddenly Kontact crashes. When I restart Kontact and open Knode I see that my article is still in the outgoing folder, but when I look in the newsgroup, I see that my article has been sent. I assume that Knode does not get a correct response from the news server after sending the article because of an interruption.
Comment 1 Roberto Selbach 2004-10-01 21:40:38 UTC
Could you provide a backtrace? Otherwise I have no choice but to close this bug, since I cannot reproduce it here.

Also, does it happen with one particular server/group? Did you try other combinations?
Comment 2 arimar_te 2004-10-06 07:35:33 UTC
Hello Mr. Selbach,

I am sorry, but I have no backtrace.
I found out the following concerning the crash of knode:

my router has a TCP-aging setting. When the time between receiving the
latest news with knode and publishing a new article myself exceeds the
TCP-aging setting in the router, knode crashes. I set a higher value now
and it works fine. I think not many routers have a TCP-aging setting which
is probably the reason why it is not a common problem. I hope my description
helps you a little.

At this point I would like to say thank you for working on the software.
Linux is getting more and more valuable as a desktop system.

Regards,

M. Schneider

Does this still happen? If yes, we need a backtrace, otherwise it's impossbile to do anything about it.

See a backtrace in Debian bug report at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=408520

- Initial submitter can not give backtrace
- comment #4 is unrelated, look more like bug #134708, #133332
- comment #5 is bug #167865
