Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0) Installed from: Gentoo Packages I created a largish (around 2 gigabytes) archive with Konqueror filemanager. Archiving itself was easy task, just a simple right-click-on-directory + archive-this-please operation. But the compression progress bar itself was quite uninformative, showing only a bar moving back and forth in Knight Rider's K.I.T.T car style. :-) What I would like to see is something more verbose: maybe a rough estimation how long the compression will still take, or something like "150 files / 250 MB archived, 1000 files / 1750 MB to go". Sorry if this bug report is under wrong category, I wasn't sure if this belongs under KArchiver or under Konqueror.
I agree! I too would like more verbose info on (un)compressing files. If I select 5 files and select Extract => Extract to subfolders, I get 5 dialogs saying "Please wait" with the Knight Rider's K.I.T.T styled progress bar as Janne described so nicely. What I would like to see in the dialogs for extraction /at the very least/ are the filenames that are currently being uncompressed. Other improvements to the dialog that I can think of; - The current file that is being uncompressed. - A progress bar of the current file that is being uncompressed (0 to 100%, not the bouncing back and forth one) - An indicator of the elapsed time. - An estimation of the amount of time it would take to uncompress the whole archive. - A progress bar for the total archive (again 0 to 100%, non bouncing) I suppose this dialog could be used for compressing as well as uncompressing files. Uncompressing could count from 100% to 0%, and compressing would count from 0 to 100%. Mockup will be included after this comment.
Due to a mistake on my part I attached the image to the wrong bug, you can view it here: http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=16926&action=view
This is fixed in the kde4 version of ark. Since kde3 ark will not recieve any further development other than critical bugfixes, I am closing this bug.
Changing the component to general so we can remove "Konqueror Plugin" from the component list (doesn't make sense in KDE4).
