Can Kate be convinced to strip trailing whitespace? The problem is that autoindent mode leaves tabs on blank line when shifting the indentation on blocks of text. These trailing tabs and blanks mess up diffs in tools like bitkeeper. They make diffs appear when there are none.

You can enable "remove trailing spaces" in Open/Save. Everytime you save a file all trailing spaces are removed.
Does this solve your problem?

I think it also removes them dynamically as well now. In addition to on save.
