Version: 0.14.0-3 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0) Compiler: version gcc 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-9) Linux AciD 2.6.8.1 #2 Wed Aug 25 00:32:46 CEST 2004 i686 GNU/Linux OS: Linux As i'm an irc freak, I'm in ~40 channels. So displaying the channel buttons horizontally isn't an option. It would be cool to have a vertical list of buttons (and even better if we could set the maximum height and width of them) and/or a 'tree' list where each channels would be sorted by server.
It should maybe be into another wish-bug but there one thing about the tree mode : I found that grouping tabs around a servertab is really needed when you're connected to several servers ( of course ) , and sometimes, same channels on different network .. so my wish for christmas( ;) ), additionaly to the vertical channel button list, is tab sorting by network connection. ( i'm an ex-XChat-luser ;) ) something like : -------------------------------------------------------- | Server 1 | #konv | #kde | Server 2 | #kde | #linux | -------------------------------------------------------- with #konv and #kde being on network server 1, and #kde and #linux being on network Server 2
While this may well (as someone told me earlier tonight) not be the best screenshot ever, it shows the tree-view currently existing in KVirc. i believe this is the sort of thing you're talking about? :) http://www.kvirc.net/img/awake_fancy.jpg A quick look on XChat's website provided me with this pictorial evidence of XChat also adopting something similar... In my personal opinion much more pleasant looking ;) http://xchat.org/files/screenshots/xchat-260-winxp-tree.png
The XChat implementation had a number of issues last time I looked at it - it wasn't possible to adjust the width of the treelist area, nor to put both the nick list and the view switcher on the same side of the window. We should do better. As it is, this is our most popular request by far currently.

A treelist as a vertical alternative to the tab bar can be found in the SVN repository now. It supports all cosmetic and interactive features of the tab bar, including, but not limited to, text notifications, LEDs, (hover) close buttons with delayed activation, context menus, drag'n'drop, and mouse wheel events. Plus a few tricks of its own. Fixed.
