Description ieure 2004-08-18 00:10:09 UTC
Version: 3.3 (using KDE 3.3.0, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7-1-686

I have the bookmark toolbar placed to the left of the Location toolbar. I have a single Bookmark folder set as the toolbar folder.

When I make the window narrower, the bookmark toolbar snaps to a new position above or below the location toolbar, even though the location toolbar could contract much more. Even with no URL at all in the Location field, I can't shrink the window to less than ~980px wide without wasting vertical space.

This is a screenshot of Konqueror right before the bookmark toolbar snaps down.

This is how it looks when I shrink the window a bit more. There is still tons
of space left in the location toolbar that could be used.

This is still a problem with 3.5.1 (Debian unstable packages)

Actually, over the past few years it's come and gone, at least in the way that the 'smarts' behind it have seemingly been modified. It's a bit like the way that irritating taskbar height thing (see bug #77407) changes from one release to the next.

One of the things I hate most about that other OS is that you have to suffer the bizarre personal preferences of some unknown programmer.

This bug has existed in various guises, sometimes requiring a slightly wider window, sometimes not working sensibly at all -- but there hasn't been a linear progression. In 3.5.1, even with a full-width window on a 1600x1200, I still can't get 4 icons in my bookmark-toolbar to squeeze in next to the 850-metre long, and mostly unused location toolbar. I think in 3.5.0, this worked okay *only* if the URL in that location field was populated *and* wasn't longer than the visible size of same. Now it doesn't work at all, no matter how short the location's URL is.

PS. After a year and a half, this ain't a NEW bug anymore.

Very widescreen demonstration of this bug - 3360x1050 pixel image.

As per the attachment (id=23211) above, this bug just started manifesting itself even more savagely with the upgrade to KDE / Konq 3.5.8 (on Debian unstable). Previously this was relatively random - you could usually encourage it to behave sensibly by having konq windows that took up about 70% of the width of the monitor.

On a 3360 pixel wide konqueror, with a URL of this bug report, there's no excuse to force a two-icon wide toolbar onto its own line. Do the guys that make the changes to the systems (and, really, I do love you guys - 99.999% of the time you make me very happy) read these bug reports, so they a) know the impact of the changes being made, and b) while those changes are fresh in the mind are able to identify and fix the problem?

This seems to be fixed in 4.1.60 svn trunk 83179

I agree with Jaime: the bug has been fixed in KDE 4, moreover konqueror in KDE 3 is no more mantained.
