Description Dik Takken 2004-08-03 00:04:22 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.92)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
OS: Linux

When I select a date on the little calendar on the left side of the Korganizer window, the same date in the large view on the right should be selected. Currently, selecting dates in this view is not possible, but it should be. It's difficult to see sometimes which month a certain date belongs to. That's why I want to use the little month-calendars on the left to select dates, not the large view.

Hello Dik,
Are you talking about KOrganizer's month view? Or some other view?

Cheers,
Reinhold
Comment 2 Dik Takken 2005-02-14 09:47:03 UTC
Sorry, yes I was referring to the month view, but the same is true for the week view.
Comment 3 Reinhold Kainhofer 2006-11-02 19:18:56 UTC
Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.
Comment 4 Christophe Marin 2008-11-17 00:35:06 UTC
Resolved in KDE4. The date appears on the right part of the window

Korganizer showing bug still present in trunk

The image attached shows that the bug is still very much present in trunk (at least as of revision 885261).

To get to it: In the calendar, open the month view, click on Dec. 16. Then, in the little calendar on the left (date picker? I'll assume that's what it's called), click on Nov. 20. While the month view scrolls so that the date clicked in the date picker shows in the top row, the selected date does not change; this is evident in the highlighting as you can see, and also affects other functions (e.g. if you click "new event", it opens on Dec. 16, not Nov. 20).

Apparently I do not have permissions to reopen this bug; please do so (or refute my claim in comment #5).

Thanks,
Shai.

Thank you for your feedback. I have to apologize : I wasn't using the good way to test this bug.

However, I disagree with the suggestion made originally :
- When in month view, I only expect the clicked day to appear on the first line. This is the current behaviour for this view.

- When in week view (also valid for the work view / next 3 days view), clicking on a date will automatically switch to the daily view.

I reopen this bug and let the Korganizer maintainer decide what to do :)

Hi,

I don't think this bug is mainly about display. Rather, it is about function: The fact that the date picker only brings the date picked into view, but fails to select it (in the sense of "making it the selected date, the target of future actions").

Selecting a different date shouldn't change the type of main view IMHO, but that is completely beside the point of this bug.

Day/week view is a different case, in the little calendar you can select more than one day, if you only select one, you'll get day view, if you select two you get two day view.

Week view is just a particular case of day view (or vice versa), they even use the same widget.

For month view I agree this is a bug

Thanks for this tip. I wasn't aware of this, and while I see the possible utility, I find this behavior quite surprising. Being now aware, I am also surprised by not being able to select non-consecutive dates this way.

I find this quite irrelevant; what I see as relevant is that the user action of picking a date is cognitively distinct from that of picking a date-range, and I don't think they should be handled the same way.

I think this also holds at least for work-week, as there is no way to pick the work-week from the date-picker (except as a set of consecutive dates, which is cumbersome for something that is pre-defined).

However, the originally reported bug, as I understand it from the original submission, and as detailed in my comment #5, appears to be no more in trunk. Perhaps it is now time to close this bug and continue the discussion about the main-view's response to date-picking somewhere else?

Thanks for the good work,

Shai.
