Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources Compiler: gcc3.3.1 OS: Linux Example with KMail part: Immediately after start of Kontact status bar is OK. But after mouse hover over link im mail body (it's OK - in status bar I see link), content of status bar is changed to "Initializing..." and what is more important - height of status bar is changed, forcing redraw of lower part of Kontact window. Ugly. Very ugly.
Forgot to add - also whole bar with Kontact parts is redrawn at the same time.
Argh. Thought this is another bug but looks like the part of the same problem: In contacts part when hovering over links in Contact part with alphabet buttons is heavily redrawn, plus bar with Kontact parts. Very ugly effect.
I can confirm this (KDE 3.3 beta2) and it's REALLY ugly. If I hover the mouse over an address in the fancy header or an URL inside a message the status line changes. It usually shows "Initializing..." inside of a surrounding rectangle. On mouse hover the rectangle disappears and it displays the URL ("mailto: ..." or whatever). It doesn't happen on standalone kmail, only inside kontact. Please fix this before the final 3.3 as it's majorly annoying! BTW, it worked fine in KDE 3.2.3.
Also in KMail it resizes 'fancy header'. In Kaddressbook is really ugly redraw of whole interface.
As for CVS 31 July it vanished. Note: In meantime I changed compiler optimization flag which was causing problems already in Kontact: -Os Now I ma using more safe -O2 and this may cause "fixing". Thus I am not closing this report but I know that such things was closed as gcc bugs. If anyone can confirm this vanishes also for -Os or is in power to decide it is gcc bug - close it.
The wobbling statusbar problems have been fixed recently. Thanks for reporting.
I am seeing this in kontact, running from the 3.4 release. Should this be re-opened or should another bug be opened?
Sorry to re-open this, but I'm still seeing this. I am using kdepim entirely from branches/3.5, using OpenSuSE 10.0-beta4. The only thing that I can think of that might be helpful is that OpenSuSE 10.0 is using gcc4. Maybe that has something to do with this? But then again, NO other KDE or Qt application that I have does this. It must be something particular to kontact. I'll attach a screenshot to show what I'm seeing.
Created attachment 12540 [details] a screenshot showing the bouncing/growing/weird status bar in kontact
I have had this problem with a variety of styles, including krisp, phase, .NET, and even Plastik. I have seen this problem running with the IceWM window decorations. I'm not sure if maybe that has something to do with it. I've switched to using SuSE's default Kwin theme and haven't had the problem yet this morning.
Okay, this just happened again to me this morning, and I'm using SuSE's default kwin theme and the standard Plastik style, so it's not caused by the IceWM window decorations.
Just hit this again this morning. Every time I see this, it is triggered by my using kmail inside kontact. And it seems that whenever this happens, I have clicked on a different folder on the left hand side, and am in the process of moving my mouse cursor away from the left hand side (list of folders), across the splitter, and into the contents of the new e-mail. It seems like a timing issue, and I can't reproduce it at will yet. Maybe there's something throwing the constraints/layout of kmail/kontact when the mouse cursor moves quickly from kmail's folder list to the splitter to the contents of the e-mail? Maybe when the cursor moves over a hyperlink? Till, I'm adding you as a CC to this, since it doesn't seem that anyone else is aware of this. My apologies if this offends you. Any idea on how I can debug what's happening?
Still an issue in KDE 3.5.5?
Didn't spot it in long time. Closing it again - in worst case it will be reopened.
