Description Mikolaj Machowski 2004-06-10 21:25:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc3.3.1
OS: Linux

When changing composer options from menu in composer
(eg. use of external editor). It will take effect only after next start of composer, not immediately.
Comment 1 Ingo Klöcker 2004-06-12 00:26:56 UTC
There's no "Use external editor" option in the menus in composer. Do you mean changes in the configuration dialog? Or do you really mean options from the Options menu in composer?

Options from options menu in composer

Comment 3 Edwin Schepers 2004-10-13 23:09:41 UTC
Hi Mikolaj,
Which options are you referring to? I think options like Urgent, Sign, Encrypt are a per-message setting.

Is it okay to close this report?

Eg. external editor - generally - global KMail options.

From my POV - no. (I ma using last Friday CVS)
It can be solved by:
a) applying global KMail changes to Composer window
b) after Apply, or OK in KMail settings detect if there are open
Composer windows and give dialog with message:

New settings doesn't apply to already opened Composer windows. If you
want to use them, save messages as 'draft' and open for editing again.

Problem still exists in October 2006, 3.5 branch. Eg. open Composer window,
open settings, switch use of external editor, OK, return to Composer window,
use it. Old setting will be used.

If I got you correctly the bug is:
Although you can select Settings -> KMail options from a composer's window and change the options (eg. external editor) there, the options are not assigned to the composer you already have running but only to new ones. Right?

I can confirm this bug for trunk r860752.

@Michael

Exactly as you described it.

It's not a bug.
You start to work on external editor => you write into.
If we change parameter and we close external editor we will lose data.
So I will not change this feature.
If you want to change to external to kmail editor it will work in new composer for me it's normal and avoid to lose message.
I close it as wontfix
