Description Manuel Amador (Rudd-O) 2004-05-24 00:25:15 UTC
Version:           0.11.6cvs (using KDE 3.2 BRANCH >= 20040204, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 (Mandrake Linux 10.0 3.3.2-6mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.3-4mdk

K3b issues a dialog box with some MP3 files indicating they cannot be added to the Audio CD project.

I have a 300kb attachment file which shows the problem.

i have a similar problem:

all i want to do is convert mp3 files (already down loaded) to "normal" audio cd - so i can listen to them on my old car cd player ... on the long drive each day.

this cant be too difficult in 2005 ... or can it?

any help is a big help.

mp3 is always difficult. there are so many broken mp3 files around....
detecting them all is IMOH nearly impossible.
Comment 3 Manuel Amador (Rudd-O) 2005-07-28 23:48:29 UTC
Yes, there are broken mp3 files. The one I sent plays in every player, so it¡s logical to assume it's good (even if it might be broken). If players can be robust, why can't k3b?

okay, I attached a file that does not work. What is the problem with running k3b under gdb or strace and inspecting what's wrong?

There is the file. Maybe if you find out what's wrong with the file, you'd fix or make k3b's mp3 plugin more tolerant. And if that did not work, at least there could be a workaround by making a temporary wav file with mpg123 or something like that!

I would do this but I do not have symbols on my libraries so backtraces are useless.

Funny how sometimes people think all this programming stuff is sooo easy and I
"just" have to do this and that.
If I was only working on an mp3 plugin, yes, maybe. But I do the whole K3b and
a lot of decoding and encoding plugins. So no, I cannot "just" do something.
It's not as easy as you make it sound.

I will see what I can make of the file....

Coding is hard, there's no question about that. But I am fairly experienced in C and gdb to know that finding out if this is (or continues to be) a bug is a matter of loading k3b in gdb and setting a breakpoint (which you should be fairly able to do, given that you know the code more than I) to see what's wrong. Yes, that might be two or three hours. Who said it would be 15 minutes?

Hey, for all I know this is such an old bug, it may have been fixed now. Just give that mp3 file a spin, and if it fails, at least mark this bug as confirmed so others can triage and give it a spin.

could you please send the file to trueg@k3b.org
Comment 7 Manuel Amador (Rudd-O) 2005-08-02 04:54:11 UTC
The file was attached here. I do not know what happened to the attachment, but for some reason it is no longer here, and I do not remember which file it was =(

I guess maybe somebody monitoring this bug can provide a file which makes K3b fail.

=(

should be fixed in the upcomning 0.12.8
