Description Mark 2004-05-19 01:31:28 UTC
Version:            (using KDE Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources
Compiler:          gcc 3.2.2
OS:                Linux

Kget crashes on startup with the following output:

> kget
[here it prompts for integration with konqueror - it doesn't matter if I hit yes or no]
*** KGet got signal 11
ERROR: Communication problem with kget, it probably crashed.

I read that there were some kget problems with QT 3.2, but I am using KDE_HEAD from the latest CVS (updated May 16) with QT 3.2.2
Comment 1 Mark 2004-05-19 01:34:51 UTC
Correction: I'm using QT 3.3.2
Comment 2 JW 2004-05-30 21:11:45 UTC
Same problem here.

Using kde 3.3_alpha1.
Comment 3 Mark 2004-05-31 22:36:03 UTC
I had switched to the X.org server before this problem began occurring, and I just recently recompiled QT against the X.org server. This seemes to have corrected the problem.
Comment 4 Mark 2004-06-02 04:13:35 UTC
Works for me now. I'm marking this resolved.
Comment 5 kde 2004-07-05 17:34:06 UTC
This is still a problem for me on kde 3.3 alpha1 ive tested the latest kdenetwork cvs snapshot and that has the same problem. My QT libraries were installed *after* X.org. Please reopen this bug
Comment 6 kde 2004-07-09 18:27:56 UTC
Upgraded arts and kdelibs to beta1 works fine now. But i get this when KGet starts:

kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 48x48/stock/object not valid.
kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group 48x48/stock/table not valid.

but it still starts ok and works fine - tested with three concurrent downloads.
Comment 7 olistrut 2004-07-24 23:58:22 UTC
Not sure if that's the same, but kget keeps crashing from time to timem after upgrading to 3.3 beta 2 (SUSE RPMs).

olistrut@zi432:~> kget
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::destroyed() to QTipManager::clientWidgetDestroyed()
QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::destroyed() to QTipManager::clientWidgetDestroyed()
(delay, kget working fine)
(adding more stuff via konqueror, list all links)
QTextEdit::optimParseTags: mismatching right-tag for '<b>' in line 191.
QTextEdit::optimParseTags: mismatching right-tag for '<b>' in line 194.
(long delay here, kget downloading stuff)
*** KGet got signal 11

This happens frequently. I cannot use kget for more than approximately 10 minutes.

Comment 8 kde 2004-08-11 18:13:54 UTC
The KGet in kdenetwork 3.3 RC2 suffers from the same random crashing problem. However it appears to be linked to the auto save file list function:

To reproduce:
1. start kget
2. Right click its tray icon and select 'Configure Kget
3. On the automation tab, select 'Autosave file list every' and set to 1min
4. Click ok
5. Select some items to download, wait one minute and the kget tray icon and main window will disappear

Workaround:
Turn off Autosave filelist
Comment 9 Mark 2004-08-13 15:53:30 UTC
<theboywho@ruddyperl.com> has pointed out that this is still an open issue that can be reproduced, so I've reopened this report.
Comment 10 Mark 2004-08-14 12:41:42 UTC
Bug 81612 appears to be this same error and has been corrected in CVS and will be in 3.3 final. I'm closing it again.
Comment 11 kde 2004-08-16 12:58:43 UTC
Confirmed fixed in KDE-CVS. Works great!
Comment 12 Mario Scalas 2004-08-21 13:34:58 UTC
It is still here with kde 3.3.0 final:

mario@gnuderian mario $ konqueror
konqueror: ERROR: Error in BrowserExtension::actionSlotMap(), unknown action : searchProvider
konqueror: ERROR: Error in BrowserExtension::actionSlotMap(), unknown action : searchProvider

(Using Qt 3.3.3 and XFree-4.3.0-r6 (gentoo package))
Comment 13 Ralph Schuengel 2004-08-21 15:16:10 UTC
I'm also still having this problem.
strace kget:

Just some more .02 cents:
- [From the default Konqui toolbar] Click on "Show drop target" and gets the siignal 11 message. Click on "List All Links" and select any file; then click and obtain the same message on console log (konqueror stays fine)
- [From K-Menu] Start KGet and it goes with no problem: I can show the drop target and play with it.
- [From Konsole] type "kget" and get the dreadful signal 11 message :-/ Last lines using strace:

Comment 15 Johnny Andersson 2004-08-22 23:03:24 UTC
Recently installed 3.3.0 (Gentoo): KGet crashes just like above post when run from konq or command line, but starts OK when launched from kmenu.
Comment 16 F Fracassi 2004-08-23 12:51:54 UTC
Same here!
As said above Kget only starts from KMenu, and works fine afterwards.
Starting from Konqueror or command line crashes.
I also use gentoo linux and kde 3.3, qt 3.3.3.

I think this bug is rather grave. If you choose konquerer integration, kget crashes and leaves konquerer unable to download files. Furthermore there
is no obvious way of disableing kget anymore, so this leaves users unable to download files.

See bug #84450, for the same problem, and proposed patch (to fix Sig 11 problem).
