Description Morten Sjoegren 2004-05-17 07:25:57 UTC
Version: 3.2.2 (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: GCC 3.3.3 CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS = "-O3 -march=pentium4 -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe"
OS: Linux

I've a panel in the left side of the screen and then I change the resolution of the desktop there is created a sort of ghost-panel next to my left-panel. (I also have a right-panel, don't I don't think it matters)
The result of this is that all the desktop icons are shifted inverts and the background is turned a little grey-ish like it would be if a normal panel were translucent.
If I after the ghost-panel appeares move my left-panel, the ghost-panel is suddenly visible in the same color as the other panels, but I can't click on it.
I'm just glad that the ghost-panel isn't on-top like my other panels, so that maximized windows are on-top of it.
The only way I've found to make it go away is to restart KDE, which I don't want too so I just let this bug continue.

I'd like to post some debug output, but nothing comes out when this happens.
I've compilede kdelibs, kdebase and others with --enable-debug and I've enabled "1210 kicker", "1204 kdesktop", "1207 kdedesktop (mimicli)" and "1214 kdedesktop (icons)" and told kdebugdialog to output to files, but no output is generated when I change resolution.
Is there other debug options i should select?

If screendumps are wanted I'd be glad to provide them, but I don't have anythere to post them right now.

PS.: I'm using "krandrtray" to change resolution.

This images shows the ghost-panel between my left-side-panel and my desktop

The Ghost-panel is roftly the same size the left-panel.

I just thought, I'd better report details on my system:
Hardware:
CPU: P4 2.8GHz
Motherboard: Asus P4P800S
Videocard: Asus V9280 Video Suite (Geforce 4 TI4280)

Software:
Linux 2.6.6
NVIDIA Driver v. 5336
Xorg 6.7.0 (It happend with XFree 4.3 as well)

A little on my configuration,
I'm using twinview in clone.
My metamodes are:
   Option "MetaModes" "1152x864,1024x768; 1024x768, 1024x768;800x600, 800x600"

I hope this will help, in tracing this bug down.

Looks to me like kdesktop is not resizing correctly. I definitely see background background redraw problems here.
Comment 4 Morten Sjoegren 2004-06-22 17:42:11 UTC
I'd just like to add that this bug exists in both KDE 3.2.3 and KDE 3.3.0alpha1.
Comment 5 Morten Sjoegren 2004-07-30 12:39:18 UTC
I've just tried OneBase's LiveCD with KDE3.3beta2 on my old machine and the bug is exactly the same.

The old machines hardware:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ on a Soltek SL-75KAV with 636MB SDRAM.
Geforce2 MX 32MB

I can't help to notice that both machines uses an Geforce-videocard, can anyone confirm (or unconfirm) this bug?
