Description Tobi 2004-04-21 11:05:56 UTC
Version: 3.2.2 (using KDE 3.2.2, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-202-default

Hi :)

When I open Konqueror as browser

  $ kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing

then hit F9 I get a sidebar which I can resize: I can grab the thin
bar between the main canvas and the sidebar, drag it to the right or
left, and when released it stays where it was when I released it.

But when I start Konqueror as file manager

  $ kfmclient openProfile filemanagement

I get a sidebar which I can not resize: I grab the thin bar, drag it
to the right or left, then various parts of the window layout (the bar
itself, the right side of the canvas, the horizontal scrollbar of the
sidebar) jump forth and back wildly, and when I release the bar it
jumps back to where it was before.

Is this considered a feature or a bug? I'd like to be able to resize
the sidebar in both the file manager and the browser profiles. I played with the settings but didn't succeed.

Suse 9.0
Qt: 3.3.1

This seems to be a duplicate of Bug 76360.

Might be. It doesn't work here, can you you reproduce the bug?

Same here, but I can't resize anywhere (File Management or WebBrowser).
KDE 3.2.2
Qt 3.3.2

I don't think I had this strange behavior with KDE 3.2.1 (then again, I think I've also updated Qt since then). I remember having some problems with resizing also with another Qt application (http://psi.affinix.com), but I can't reproduce them right now.

Anyway, here's the whole story:
1. Make the sidebar appear (F9)
2. Drag it to the right of the window... until the right side of konqueror dissapears.
3. Drag it back to the left, not too fast, and you will see it jumps exactly to leave room on the right side for one large icons column (I'm trying this with large icons list). Release it.
3. Now try to resize it -> Doesn't work!
4. What you can do: drag it to the left, completely, until the buttons hide also.
5. Now try to drag it to the right -> Doesn't work. (What you will get to show will be only the sidebar buttons)

How to make SOMETHING work:
1. Drag it completely to the right
2. Drag it a little to the left, until that one large icons column appear.
3. Resize the window by grabbing the LEFT margin, until you get the right width for the sidebar.
4. Now, resize the window by grabbing the RIGHT margin.. to the size you want.

It looks like somewhere in this process, the sidebar gets to think that it is no longer the fixed width part of the konqueror window, but the file list must have fixed width.

Hope that helps.

I have the same problem on ONE of my systems. On the system which is set to 1920x1440 the navigator sidebar can not be resized. If I attempt to resize by dragging the separator, the sidebar "jumps wildly" and returns to the original size. This occurs in either file browser or web browser mode. My other system, which is set to 1024x768, does not exhibit this problem.

I can confirm this does act as described in bug #76360. If I remove the tabbed view the problem goes away.

Problem System :
Fedora Core 1, kernel 2.4.22-1.2188, KDE 3.2.2
Screen Size 1920 x 1440
X11 System - XFree86

OK System :
Fedora Core 2, Kernel 2.6.5-1.358, KDE 3.2.2
Screen Size 1024 x 768
X System - X.org
