Description Kjetil Kjernsmo 2004-04-19 21:51:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

A majority of my appointments are conferences, competitions or something similar that all have a registration deadline.

Usually, I plan well ahead, so I enter the event in my calendar when I first hear about it, but usually I also wait to the last minute with actually registering. Now, I add a reminder which falls about the time when I have to register. Far from an optimal solution.

It would have been really useful if the dialog box where appointments were entered, also contained a box where registration date and time could be entered, so that the whole thing could be entered in one go.

Furthermore, it seems natural that the event is registered as an appointment, whereas the registration is added as a TODO. So, the best way to do this would be if the new appointments dialog could actually take both the appointment and the TODO.

You can easily create a todo for the deadline and an event for the conference or whatever. Putting a registration deadline into the appointment dialog is way too specialized for my taste.

It might be nice to have a general way to associate todos with events, though.

Sure, but that would imply entering pretty much the same information twice, and I can't be bothered (or have time or interest to do that)

Surely, I'm not the only one who does this kind of thing very frequently (like twice a week, far more frequently than a TODO of mine has a start time)...? :-)

Yup. But the most important thing would be avoid duplicating the input, and a registration deadline would just be a single date and time box, like start and end date and time boxes. Not much clutter, but very powerful.... :-)

Anyway, since you say you feel it is too specialized, let me suggest something more general: How about some mechanism where you can point, drag and drop an event to the TODO area, and then the TODO dialog pops up, and the title of the even is given as the title of the TODO, the start time of the event is given as the TODOs default due time.

It would be pretty straightforward for me to modify the due date to the registration deadline, and for example add a "Registration deadline" as a category (which could be among the categories shipped by default), and I guess that would serve the purpose...

Cheers,

Kjetil
