Description Nick Leverton 2004-04-05 14:52:26 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

The option "Use system bell for notifications" no longer works in KDE 3.2.1, it was fine in KDE 3.1.x. The "test" button on the kcmbell dialogue produces a PC beep correctly, and .kde/share/config/kdeglobals is updated, however KDE continues to produce system notifications on the sound card (which may not be installed, or may have no speakers, or may be recording a radio programme which I don't want to be spoilt by KDE).

If I turn off all notification sounds, then I don't even get any feedback from keyboard beeps, so it's not a satisfactory workaround.

I'm not sure which component this bug belongs to, please could you reassign it if appropriate.

Hi,
I encountered the same problem and found this other Bug #56903
Here a short excerpt:
>Regional & Accessibility -> Accessibility --> Bell
>In the "Audible Bell" field you can tell KDE to use
>the system Bell or not or to use another Sound for Systembell.

So I turned this additional switch on and finally my system bell works again!

Hope I could help someone...

Martin

Yes, I had the same problem and Martin's suggestion fixed it. It seems the same option is in 2 places ("Sound and Multimedia" and "Regional and Accessibility"), and they both need to be selected to have an effect. Probably better would be to pick one place for the option or have a link in one or both places to a separate dialog.

Though the "test" button now correctly beeps the PC speaker instead of my sound card, all the system notifications, including the beep in Konsole, are still coming from my sound card. I probably don't understand how this option is supposed to work, but this seems strange to me - if that's not the effect it has, I don't know what effect it is supposed to have.

Does this problem still exist in KDE 3.5?
Comment 5 Philip Rodrigues 2006-11-18 12:23:27 UTC
Feedback timeout, but please reopen if you still see the problem in 3.5

KDE 4 has the same problem :-(

Which is the right product/component for this bug?

kdelibs/knotify, systemsettings/bell or systemsettings/kcmnotify?

In Konsole 2.7 (kde 4.7.0), bell in visible session works, but not bell in invisible session.
Comment 9 Jérôme Poisson 2011-08-27 12:16:14 UTC
Oooopsss, sorry, I replied to a bad bug, this one is not linked to konsole...
