Description Ulrich Plate 2004-04-01 23:54:22 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3_pre20040207-r0
OS: Linux

Typing IDN domain names like http://www.möbel.de into the location bar produces a "Malformed URL" error instead of resolving to http://www.xn--mbel-5qa.de. Is this unsupported in Konqueror? Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape, Opera and even Apple Safari don't seem to have this problem. The only other browser that doesn't support IDNs out of the box is IE...

It's supported, but you need libidn to be installed. Do you have it?
Comment 2 Dirk Mueller 2004-04-02 19:03:51 UTC
you need libidn for international domain names.

Comment 3 Ulrich Plate 2004-04-02 22:26:36 UTC
Thanks a lot, gentlemen! Works perfectly after installing libidn. I'll tell the people at http://getidn.org to modify their browser testing routine.

There still are many bug on IDN support in konqueror. Go on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internationalized_domain_name. Try exemples. All work on firefox, none on konqueror (and I have libidn installed).
Comment 8 Allan Sandfeld 2006-08-07 14:46:04 UTC
The list of domains in wikipedia is firefox specific. No other browser supports IDN on .com domains. The reason is that .com allow IDN name spoofing which is serious security issue the Mozilla people are chosen to ignore in the name of a fancy feature.
