Description michael 2004-03-30 22:58:21 UTC
Version:           1.6 (using KDE 3.2.0,  (3.0))
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian prerelease)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.2.20

I looked at other header curruption bugs, but they all show resolved or closed. However, I still have corruption occurring.. Usually from a spammer, and it has been traced down to being kmail specific. Attached is the source of the email as seen by Kmail..

Hey,

Note the embedded headers...
Comment 1 michael 2004-03-31 03:28:22 UTC
Extra Note, this may be specific to using a mail server like Qmail which may not parse/validate the headers, as Spammers are embedding HTML tags in headers.
Comment 2 C.Anne Wilson 2004-07-20 11:31:11 UTC
I also am having problems with spam not being filtered correctly because the spam tag is not being seen by KMail. It seems to be an AOL thing - almost all affected mail shows AOL as the originater. There always seems to be an inserted blank line, and a strange repeat of part of the boundary line. Example:

Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 04:53:01 +0400
X-Mailer: AOL 2.5 for Windows US sub 042
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
  boundary="--03071429312658404144"
X-Priority: 3
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-IP:160.28.4.254
Status: R
X-Status: N
X-KMail-EncryptionState:
X-KMail-SignatureState:
X-KMail-MDN-Sent:

----03071429312658404144
Content-Type: text/plain;
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit
X-Text-Classification: spam

My mail is collected from my isp by PopFile, then collected and filtered by KMail. My KMail version is the Kontact Version 0.8 that is shipped with Mandrake Linux 10 Official.

Can you provide the source of a message that's corrupted by KMail, i.e. the source of a message which hasn't been already corrupted, but which is reproducibly corrupted if it's fetched with KMail?

How did you fetch the message? From a local mbox/maildir spool? From a POP account? Via IMAP?
Comment 4 C.Anne Wilson 2004-07-23 22:00:39 UTC
I presume you mean can I supply a mail direct from my isp, not through kmail? I'm willing to try to do that next time an example comes in, but how do I do it? The truth is that we do not know whether the problem originates with the sender, the isp, or kmail. I collect isp > POPFile > KMail. POPFile is appending the headers, but KMail can't see them in a small number of cases.

Please tell me exactly what I can do to help solve this.

Maybe use a different client, and try imap to leave it on the server, and then you can see the raw source before Kmail grabs it.. I forgot about this bug, but it still occurs.. I will have to include the next one I get, but the problem is that I usually find out about it AFTER I downloaded it. The only way to get around this is to have mail get forwarded to another address/mailbox as well, and then when I find a corrupted on, I can go to the other mailbox or file and find the original.

Hi, so far no example message has been provided. Also, KMail is avaliable in version 1.8.1 currently. Is somebody able to reproduce this problem with a recent KMail version?
Comment 7 C.Anne Wilson 2005-06-12 20:47:48 UTC
I'm using 1.7.2, and I haven't seen one lately. Sorry, can't be more definite than that, but I think it may be resolved.

Closing then. If somebody can reproduce with KMail 1.8.x, then please reopen the bug or drop a message to the developers.
