Description soloturn99 2004-03-23 22:53:57 UTC
Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE 3.2.1, (testing/unstable))
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.4-1-k7-smp

"save as" dialog blocks the browser and can be in background. i'm not sure if it is the browsers dialog, or that one of kget. download happens throuht kget.

this dialog should not block the browser.

Please provide your Qt version and exact steps to reproduce the problem.

the simple thing:
1. click on a link and say "save as"
2. browser window is blocked.
--> it woud be nice if browser window is not blocked then, but save-as window should say what it wants to do, so you do not need any browser window any more to decide and could also close it and press ok to save dialog half an hour later.

the more complicated and bothering thing is:
1. www.knoppix.de (--> win1)
2. middle mouse button on "download" (open in new window: win2)
3. click through and then get to ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/
4. click on KNOPPIX_V3.3-2004-02-09-DE.iso
5. then it gets strange:
- win2: the url in the window changes to
ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V3.3-2004-02-09-DE.iso
- the focus changes to win1.
- a "save as" dialog pops up blocking input to konqueror windows
- you can though click on win2 and bring it in forground
- the bad thing is that it can be very difficult to find your
download dialog again to unlock your browser window.
e.g. normally the window with the download dialog blinks blue,
but if you switch desktops, or move "win2" to another desktop
  it does not any more.

ideal would be if the download dialog does not block anything, does not change any url in win2, and does not switch the focus to something unrelated.

kde version is now 3.2.2 and qt should be:
# apt-cache show libqt3c102-mt
Version: 3:3.2.3-2

Should be fixed in KDE3.2.3 or you can upgrade your Qt to 3.3.x to fix the problem as well.

does this mean case 1 is fixed (save as does not block browser), or case 2 (focus stealing)?

Both should be, but if upgrading to KDE3.2.3 or Qt3.3.x doesn't help, please reopen.
