Description Thomas Wolfe 2004-03-19 22:05:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: I Don't Know
OS: Linux

At my school, Br. Rice in Chicago IL, My systems administrator, Mrs. Jones, would love to switch to Linux, the only thing there is one programs that is not avalible in linux that she says is a must have. It requires MS Word and I imagine it would be hard to emulate with WINE. It is called http://www.emo.com writers workbench. If there would be a replacement for this it would save us tens of thousands on software, and I am sure my school would be willing to donate a little somthing when they see the savings. It is just software that checks for to-be verbs and such. Mrs. Jones says they english department would kill her if she switched to linux because there is no writers workbench. I think you guys could easily create something superior to writers workbench and possibly integrate it in koffice, I might propose this to the openoffice.org guys too. Anyways thanks, and I hope to hear from some people soon.

Oh sorry to comment so soon, but I think there is something similar to this for linux but no graphical frontend which would probably confuse most students. from the website " Because Writer's Workbench no longer requires a network or UNIX systems to provide access to these phenomenal writing guidance and analysis tools, you will find that Writer's Workbench minimizes complexity, eliminates network aggravation, and saves on your costs. Please note that these part numbers are for our new release, WWB 8.1." I found a little something here: http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2000/05/05/LivingLinux.html

The GNU home page of diction is:
http://www.gnu.org/software/diction/diction.html
(It is for English and German.)

Have a nice day!

Thanks a lot! Just wondering, it looks like it only does dictation and style which are nice, but is there any chance of something with tobe verb analysis and such? and would it be possible for a pretty kde gui for it, chances are the people who go to my school would be clueless at the command line.

You have a nice day too and thanks for responding so quickly, sorry I could not respond as quickly as you, but I was out snowboarding, I highly reccomend it ;) lots of fun.
