Description David Heremans 2004-03-15 17:16:37 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Hello,

First of all thanks for konsole. I love it!
But as always, there are a few things I personally would love to see integrated :-)

I greatly appreciate the fact that you can have your input send to other session of the same konsole, especially to detached sessions. This way I can work at multiple machines at the same time and see the different output of the same commands on all those machines, and use the detached session to enter a single commands on those machines if needed.

However on my wishlist would be the possibility to open a small window containing only an input field and a multiple-select list with all sessions of that konsole
This way you could select specific sessions to send the key-input of the input field to. So instead of sending to all session you could select to send the input only to session 1,4 and 5 for instance. Session 2 and 3 would not receive the input, and each session could be used individually as well by selecting it instead of the 'multi-send-window'. The output of each session would remain in its own session and no feedback to the 'multi-send-window' would be required. In effect making this 'multi-send-window' the same as the input field of the sun cluster console program.

I tried to mimic this by 'detaching' the 'send input to all sessions'-session in a separate xterm and making it one line high (and after running a cat >/dev/null in it), but as soon as I do this detaching, it loses its 'send-to-all'-magic :-\

Hopefully this is something to be considered.

Regards,

David Heremans

There's no connection between seperate konsole windows so that part is out.

The only part of this wish that is possible is having someway to pick which sessions to send input to.

SVN commit 796545 by knight:

Re-implement 'Send Input to All' (now Edit -> Copy Input To...)

Improvements in the KDE 4 version:

- Input can be copied to all other sessions or only a subset of sessions,
selection is via a filter-able list which appears when 'Copy Input To...' is clicked.
- Input can be sent from a tab in one window to a tab in another window
(all sessions in all windows are displayed in the filter window)
