Description Yves Glodt 2004-03-14 00:01:57 UTC
Version: 1.1 (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

IMHO the "System tray" applet should be removed.
Applications that want to show up in the system tray (like kopete, kwalletmanager, ...) should simply appear
there.

Having a separate applet only leads to users forgetting adding it and thus complaining about "Applications
don't show up in the tray!".

Also, visually it looks strange because on hovering with the mouse, system tray applications have a visual 3d
effect, and hovering over kicker applets (e.g. the clock) doesn't.

screenshot of the "visual 3d effect".

See how the kwalletmanager and kopete icons are sunk (on hover), and the
others (isdn applet, system monitor) are not

This has nothing to do with the systray being an applet. It simply is the way the applet is written.
Maybe what you want fixed is part of bug 69833?
Comment 3 Yves Glodt 2004-06-23 22:46:46 UTC
Well I think the hover-effect should not exist at all, I don't see it's
purpose... maybe I lack some knowlegde of kicker.

And my initial bg actually tries to explain (I know I suck at explaining)
that an application that has a systray icon should simply show it in kicker,
without having the need of a separate system-tray applet.
I guess there is nobody who doesn't have the system-tray applet running.

I think the systray should remain an applet, so that the user can remove it easily.

The hover effect should go away, it serves no purpose that I can see.

the hover effect is optionally removable. please feel free to continue to gripe about it in random bug reports you find, though.
