Description Pavel Belik 2004-03-10 16:56:08 UTC
Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE 3.2.1, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-192-default

After upgrading from 3.2.0 to 3.2.1, the Flash presentation on www.usatoday.com (upper right corner) no longer works. Flash player plugin seems to work otherwise (checked some links -- see e.g. bug 67721 (www.homestarrunner.com) and it works fine). The upgrade was done using apt4rpm (SuSE 9.0 system).
Comment 1 Sabine 2004-03-11 01:08:34 UTC
I can second that. Another site where the Flash presentation is not working: http://www.ffh.de/. The upper frame contains flash. It used to work with v. 3.2, and it still does work with Mozilla 1.6.

I use SuSE 9.0 rpms updated via YAST from official SuSE mirrors.
Comment 2 Jarkko Haapalainen 2004-03-11 15:22:32 UTC
Same here and I'm using Gentoo Linux. In general flash is not working, but I found one site where it is working: www.sol.fi

Comment 4 Stefano 2004-03-11 16:07:04 UTC
Verified that problem sussits also with java plugin correctly scanned but not worked.

Comment 5 George Staikos 2004-03-11 20:43:31 UTC
I find it hard to believe that nspluginviewer could be responsible for this when it didn't change between 3.2.0 and 3.2.1.
Comment 6 Stefano 2004-03-11 20:49:05 UTC
experienced same problem on debian packages also
Comment 7 Stefano 2004-03-11 20:54:54 UTC
on debian unstable, it doesn't see neither th mplayer plugin, though the path is included, and the plugin is working well with mozilla.
Comment 8 Fred Wells 2004-03-12 05:10:58 UTC
I am also having this problem (http://www.comcast.net). Didn't have the
problem with kde3.2. Only after upgrading to kde3.2.1.
Comment 9 David 2004-03-12 20:35:55 UTC
Couldn't get it to work with konqueror after upgrading to 3.2.1. Removed gplflash-0.4.10-r3 because it said it conflicted with netscape-flash-6.0.79 .

After unmerging (Gentoo speak) gplflash and emerging netscape-flash. It worked. Not on all sites but on some. This is the site I tried: http://www.baciperugina.it/ita/intro.asp

Not a total fix, but partway there.
Comment 10 Stefano 2004-03-12 20:55:44 UTC
yes but the bug si that using http://www.baciperugina.it you should be automatically redirected to http://www.baciperugina.it/ita/intro.asp like it happens in mozilla.

Instead you're redirected to http://www.baciperugina.it/ita/noflash.asp and that's wrong. It is like plugins not being recognized by sites.

and this did NOT happen with 3.2.0
Comment 11 Rex Dieter 2004-03-12 23:30:54 UTC
WORKSFORME, kde-3.2.1, Fedora Core 1.
Comment 12 Stefano 2004-03-13 03:13:55 UTC
Rex could you be more specific please, since in this bug isn't enough clear and simple the concept of "working"? TIA
Comment 13 Stefano 2004-03-14 14:29:15 UTC
Also confirmed that java plugin (which correctly worked with 3.2.0 and works with mozilla) doesn't work e.g. http://games.yahoo.com/games/gen/cwpuz/puz_040314.html

Gentoo and Debian wise.
Comment 14 Jarkko Haapalainen 2004-03-14 15:35:53 UTC
> http://games.yahoo.com/games/gen/cwpuz/puz_040314.html

Works here. Using Gentoo.

Btw. anyone noticed that konqueror stop responding for short time when browsing www sites? Not always, but about one of ten. It's very annoying, maybe I switch back to 3.2.0, it worked much better.
Comment 15 Val 2004-03-14 22:46:25 UTC
I can confirm the situation in comment #10 where redirection is not working. For java check if path is set right in konqueror configuration and points to java executable.
Comment 16 George Staikos 2004-03-15 00:44:56 UTC
Diff of kdebase/nsplugins between KDE_3_2_0_RELEASE and KDE_3_2_1_RELEASE is effectively -empty-. This is not a valid nsplugin bug. QXEmbed diff is equally empty. It could be khtml, but it is definitely not nsplugins.
Comment 17 Jarkko Haapalainen 2004-03-15 17:03:07 UTC
Ok, I switched back to 3.2.0 and I have same user KDE profile/configuration, and still those sites are not working. I tried to clean the cache and running plugin scan, but no help.

Then I created new user with clean/empty home dir and started KDE. Those sites are now working with that user. (thought www.macromedia.com site still not recognize that flash is installed)

I don't know if this help, but had to say it..
Comment 18 Jarkko Haapalainen 2004-03-17 07:22:30 UTC
One more site to add. If you go http://www.ford.fi you get message that flash isn't installed, but you can go here (where konqueror should be redirected..) http://www.ford.fi/index3.html and flash is working. Web sites doesn't seem to recognize that flash is installed.

We know what's wrong now. I debugged it last night. Koos is working on a
fix. It's basically a KHTML and JS problem, to put it in simple terms.

Any word on the fix? Any workarounds until the patch is released?

Comment 22 Greg Meyer 2004-03-24 03:08:26 UTC
This was just fixed on Mandrake 10.0 CE with an update. I don't know if
Laurent from mandrakeSoft backported a patch from CVS or if he fixed it
himself. If he fixed it himself, i would assume he submitted it upstream,
but one can never be sure. The patch he applied is available in the
Mandrakesoft CVS for kdelibs here:

Excellent, thanks for the info!

Though, I'm using gentoo - I imagine all I need to do is apply this patch to
the 3.2.1 kdelibs source and recompile?

I wonder how this will be officialy resolved - anyone else know if this is in
kde's cvs?

Cheers,

Corey

the patch was from our CVS and will be in 3.2.2.
Comment 25 Greg Meyer 2004-03-24 04:10:42 UTC
This apparently wasn't just a flash problem, because now realplayer launches
from Konq just fine too. I thought was a differnet problem cause I could
never get it to work, but now with the update, that is working also.

Comment 26 corey_s 2004-03-24 07:19:23 UTC
Excellent! I just applied the patch that mandrake created from the kde-cvs
to my gentoo system, and it worked as advertised! Thanks so much everyone!

Wasn't this supposed to be fixed in kde 3.2.2?

Yes. I am using Mandrake 10.0 with KDE 3.2.1 and Laurent backported the fix
from cvs to the Mandrake packages, so it is working here now.
Comment 29 Fred Wells 2004-05-18 21:41:15 UTC
Appears to be fixed in 3.2.2 for me.
