Description robert lindgren 2004-03-08 23:48:57 UTC
Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

When the "Access to the system requires a password." screen pops up it's not possible to enter anything in the Password: field with the keyboard. It's possible to paste in a password in the paste buffer, but not with ctrl-v, only works when rightclicking on the field with the mouse. The cursor is blinking at beginning of field but no * are apearing when typing.

Removed my .kde and tested with fresh session, didn't work.

This bug renders the whole program unusable. Worked ok in 3.2, but now in 3.2.1 it's messed up.

WHAT?

How can you say that this is a dub of 69637? This has nothing to do with rdp as the 69637, this is when entering the vnc password to be able to connect, I've even not got the krdc window with the server display up, when the password enter box appear.

Reopen an mark as critical since the program doesn't work with vnc in kde 3.2.1
Comment 3 Arend van Beelen jr. 2004-03-11 16:07:03 UTC
Oops, I thought you meant the login screen that appears when connecting through rdp (as the same behaviour was experienced there too). Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Comment 4 tim 2004-03-11 17:50:17 UTC
But as the symptoms are so similar, it's likely to be related to 69637.

BTW which Qt version do you use and did you upgrade Qt as well?
(Still trying to reproduce it)
Comment 5 robert lindgren 2004-03-11 18:03:48 UTC
I have: libqt3c102-mt 3.2.3-2
ie qt 3.2.3, the latest available in debian (unstable)

It might might be related to 69637, but sure it differs, and it's never possible to enter any chars, with keyboard, ctrl-c, ctrl-z and so on. As I said it works when you rightclick on the password field and paste in the password with the mouse.

I am able to work around this bug on my system by clicking the "Fullscreen" icon. In fullscreen mode, I can alway send keyboard input to the remote server. Otherwise, I never can.
Comment 7 Kirk Strauser 2004-03-26 20:45:17 UTC
Apologies - I meant to attach that comment to 69637.

I see this problem too. Debian unstable.
Comment 10 Marco Amadori 2004-04-06 22:32:38 UTC
Same to me.
Debian unstable fresh installed and kde 3.2.1 suffers of this "undocumented feature" for sure: I've installed last months several debian unstables, via debian-installer beta3 and via (c\ )deboostrap and connecting from these to a vnc server that until 3.2.1 worked flawlessly, now is "broken".
But a friend of mine reported that while he has the same "bug" connecting to a VNC server, the same does not happen using RFB... sounds little strange. I did not found a fix yet a part this:

alias krdc='echo "password.vncserver" | xsel && krdc' # so I can paste in it!

:-)

I have experienced the same difficulty on a Debian/unstable system (Knoppix HD install, upgraded to unstable) connecting to a Windows VNC server.

Works ok now in 3.2.2, debian unstable.
