You will notice the name of the file is repeated across the title bar. This actually happens in steps of about 200ms with a new instance added to the right of the previous ones. Some characters in the tabs and status bar have either red or green as the background color. This is incorrect. I categorized the bug as a 'crash' because the growing title will almost certainly overflow at some point.
I exited KDevelop, removed all the config files for KDevelop from ./kde/share/config, and started KDevelop. This seems to have fixed the problem. It's worth recording another user reported the same problem on the developer mailing list. My config file from when I had the problem are backed up. If anybody things they would be helpfull in identifying the cause, I can provide them.
Reopen to close as dupe.
