Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0) Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package Compiler: gcc 3.3.x OS: Linux When accessing a Windows XP SMB shared printer from Linux/Samba/KDE, using the "guest account" option does not permit the Linux box to print from the printer. Checking 127.0.0.1:631 gives an "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds" error. However, if I go back and uncheck the "guest account" option, and fill in "guest" as the user name with a blank password, then it works like a charm. I have also noticed this error in the Gentoo ebuild of KDE 3.2.0. EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR: for the Wizard to properly log into the other computer on the network with a guest account. NOTES: this problem has been prevalent on all the windows boxes in my house, all of which run XP home. I have talked to someone else who had this problem, and my fix worked for her. She was running XP professional. Both of us had our computers networked using a router, and neither of us had set up passwords for printer sharing on those machines.
I'm rather confident that it has the same cause as the following bug #75746
