Description Robert Shideleff 2004-02-11 02:19:17 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.2.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r3, propolice)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.1

When using multiple identities in stand alone kmail, it is possible to set the properties of any given folder so that if that folder is selected when a new email compose session is started, a specific 'from' identity is selected. For example, when replying to an email received on my work server, my work identity is automatically selected rather than my home identity. (My home identityis the 'default'.) Likewise, if I am just reading emails from my work account, and decide to compose a new one, my work identity is selected for me. (Of course I can then choose to select my home identity while composing, if I desire.)

In Kontact the default identity is always selected. In my case, this means that my home identity is always used as the default, unless I remember specifcally to change it.

I also see this bug in KDE 3.2.1, as provided for Fedora Core 1 by kde-redhat.sf.net. Kontact always selects the default mail identity, kmail-proper selects identities according to the mail folder's preferences.
Comment 2 Don Sanders 2004-04-14 09:11:10 UTC
Odd. I can confirm this.

Comment 3 Tim Wunder 2004-04-20 18:15:28 UTC
Bug 78027 appears to be a dup of this one.
Comment 4 Tim Wunder 2004-04-20 18:19:23 UTC
Damn... wrong bug #. Sorry.
Bug 76186 is the dup.
Comment 5 Henrique Pinto 2004-04-20 19:26:25 UTC
*** Bug 76186 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 6 Tim Wunder 2004-05-15 14:46:47 UTC
Workaround: Message-New Message and Message-New Message to Mailing List works properly.
Comment 7 Till Adam 2004-08-01 16:54:35 UTC
Seems to work ok with the current development version. Please reopen if you still see this with KDE 3.3
Comment 8 Tim Wunder 2004-10-08 21:52:54 UTC
I still see this with KDE 3.3.0 and can't re-open the bug as I'm not the reporter. Clicking New Message in Kontact when in a folder that contains a non-default sender identity causes a compose window to open with the default sender. Clicking Message - New Message (or Ctrl-N) creates a compose window with the correct sender.
Comment 9 Till Adam 2004-10-08 22:22:50 UTC
Strangely enough this was apparently fixed in the branch but not in HEAD. I'm about to forward port it. Anyhow, the 3_3 branch works fine now. Please try with the next round of new packages.
Comment 10 Robert Shideleff 2005-07-08 00:34:12 UTC
This went away in the 3.3 kde release but has come back in the 3.4.1 kde release.

kmail version 1.8.1
Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.11.11
gcc version 3.4.3 20041125 (Gentoo Linux 3.4.3-r1, ssp-3.4.3-0, pie-8.7.7)
Comment 11 S. Burmeister 2006-10-28 13:01:59 UTC
Still happening in 3.5.5? I have set several of my folders to a different identity and it seems to work alright.
Comment 12 Will Stephenson 2006-10-28 21:38:38 UTC
Confirmed here, 3.5.5. In both kmail and kontact the folder identity is ignored.
Comment 13 Thomas McGuire 2007-08-08 01:48:42 UTC
I don't see this problem in KDE 3.5.7.
I started Kontact, opened the folder properties dialog and selected a non-default identity. Then I clicked the new mail button. The composer then has the correct, non-default identity.

Can anyone else confirm that the bug is gone?
Or is somebody still seeing this?
Comment 14 Jaime Torres 2008-09-09 18:36:26 UTC
I confirm that this bug is gone in 1.10.1 (kde 4.1.1).
Comment 15 Michael Leupold 2008-11-07 12:54:51 UTC
I can't confirm in 1.10.1 either. It uses the right identity when stand-alone and used from within kontact.
