Description Caio 2004-02-07 17:39:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
Compiler: GCC 3.2.3
OS: Linux

I was using the Kopete, when I was to see a message of a friend mine, it appeared a window and he had the following one in the Backtrace:

Remembering that I use Slackware 9.1 with kernel 2.4.24
Comment 2 Murray Strome 2006-01-23 08:13:07 UTC
I get a similar problem since upgrading to Mandriva 2006.
 kernel version 2.6.12 (I think)
 KDE version 3.4.2

As soon as I login and KDE starts up (even before the splash showing the startup process), I get the item

"X Soundserver - The KDE Crash Handler". This is 100% repeatable.
Under the General Tab:
    Short description

The application Soundserver (artsd) crashed and caused the signal 6
    (SIGABRT)

    What is this?

An application terminates with a SIGABRT signal when it detects an internal
inconsistency caused by a bug in the program.

   What can I do?

You might want to send a bug report for this application. Check if it is listed on
http://bugs.kde.org, otherwise mail the author. Please include as much
information as possible, maybe the original documents. If you have a way to
reproduce the error, include this also.

Under the Backtrace Tab, I get:

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents
creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corruptec in
the crash.

Unable to create a valid backtrace

I guess this would be a form of validation that there is a problem, though sound for some things seems to work anyway.

Same with opensuse 10.2 using KDE 3.5.7 I was unable to get a backtrace but this is what I have:

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.

System configuration startup check disabled.

It seems that soundsever works for the first user everytime my computer reboots then it crashes when they logout and stays that way until I restart it again.

Comment 15 Shlomi Fish 2008-02-14 22:08:17 UTC
I can reproduce this bug here - noatun causes artsd to crash and refuses to play any file, even those with codecs available. Turning off the sound system in kcontrol could not reproduce this problem.

I have a Mandriva Cooker system.

Is there any solution for it?

Regards,

       Shlomi Fish
Comment 16 Matt Rogers 2008-11-19 23:37:33 UTC
Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
