Version: 0.11.1 (using KDE 3.2.0, SuSE) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-166-athlon I saw a bugreport on a similar problem, but I'm not sure it's really the same thing here. If I'm wrong, I apologize and please close that bugreport. I have a Pioneer DVR-106 writer. I was able to burn DVD-R and DVD+RW without problem in the end, but everytime at speed 0.5x! The first time I left the speed in automatic, but the second time I specified it by hand, it didn't change anything. - K3B seems to detect the writing speed of the drive (it reports only the CD writing speed, but I guess it means all is detected properly). - When the writing process starts, the maximum speed of the blank DVD is correctly reported and K3B says it's going to use it. - ... but it burns at 0.5x the whole way. Is there a way to check whether it's a bad firmware or another sort of problem? I used Sony and Verbatim DVD-Rs and Sony DVD+RWs. Thanks for your attention!
I've just noticed the "Ignore" option in the DVD writing speed combobox and used it, but it didn't change anything. The DVD was still burned at 0.5x... So I tried all three possibilities, "Auto", "Ignore" and "2.4x", same result.
I made a new try with K3B 0.11.4, since the changelog mentions appropriate changes, but so far no luck. The DVD is still burnt at 0.5x, no matter what I set.
I have a DVR-105 firmware 1.33, my problem is similar but the correct speed is avaible only in simulation, cause when i try to burn dvd-r the system freezes every 10 seconds and in syslog i have: hdb: irq timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } hdb: ATAPI reset complete hdb: irq timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: 0x54 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 sr00:00: sns = 0 0 Non-extended sense class 0 code 0x0 Raw sense data:0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 hdb: status timeout: status=0xc0 { Busy } hdb: drive not ready for command scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 2580, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 0x1e 00 00 00 00 00 scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 2580, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 0x1e 00 00 00 00 00 SCSI host 0 abort (pid 2580) timed out - resetting SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0. SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 2580) timed out - trying harder SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0. hdb: ATAPI reset complete so i need to abort cause the pioneer's led stop and restart every 30 sec. it seems that can't set the speed if i use dvd-rw it works ok, but the strange is that with version 0.10.2 worked also with dvd-r sorry for my english :\
I think my problem is similar. I have a 4x BTC +/- Recorder and use 4x DVD-R media. The auto speed function of k3b burns with 4x. So far so good. If i want to reduce speed to 2x k3b still burns with 4x.
Another thing I can say to help... I always get the following message during the burning process: :-( unable to GET EVENT: Input/output error The message appears in the window available during burning, at the very beginning of the process, just before the writing speed is given. In spite of that message, the burning is done at 0.5x and succeeds.
The problem is a bit different here; if I set the recorder (Toshiba SD-R6112 able of 2x/1x to record R/RW media) either to record at 2x or "auto" I get an error message: "Failed to change write speed: 2117->2700" (complete error message is at the end). I can successfully record using "speed=ignore"... but it records at 1x 8-( K3b error message: ----------------------- System ----------------------- K3b Version: 0.11.9 KDE Version: 3.2.2 QT Version: 3.2.3 growisofs ----------------------- INFO: ISO-8859-15 character encoding detected by locale settings. i can confirm this bug i've got a 2x dvd-r(w) matsushita drive in my laptop although i can set the writing speed to 2x- k3b decreases it automatically to 1x the same happens when i try to burn a cd-rw - instead of burning it at 8x-speed k3b decreases it to 4x
Well, I'm happy to say that K3B 0.11.10 finally corrected the problem in my case. It was still there in 0.11.9, but after updating I could burn a DVD at 2.5x. For the record, I updated to SUSE 9.1, so I have a 2.6 kernel and cdrecord 2.01a27, but the problem was still there until I upgraded to K3B 0.11.10. The case that triggered that bugreport having been solved, I leave it to the maintainer to decide whether that bugreport must be closed. In any case, thanks a lot!! :-)
