Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: Gcc 3.3.2 OS: Linux When I run: "kbuildsycoca" using: KDE_3_2_0_RELEASE, I get a long list of WARNINGs. See attachment. A few of these might be related to stuff I installed, but I note that before I upgraded that I didn't have any WARNING messages or errors. -- JRT

most of them from kate and vimpart. So why report it to konqueror?
Created attachment 5314 [details] WARNING Updated list. -- JRT
i think perhaps seperate bugs should be created or developers of those apps should be cc'd
This appears to be fixed in KDE_3_2_BRANCH Saturday 03 April 2004. It works for me so I am resolving it as fixed. -- JRT
The problem appears to be back in 3.3.1. I attach my list some of which may be specific to my system. I also attach a list posted to the kde list. -- JRT
Created attachment 7900 [details] Output form kbuildsycoca I will try to go over this list and post a revision that is KDE only when I have time. -- JRT

Works for me. If you still have the problem it would be more useful to have a bug report against each app which is affected.
I don't see this as an app issue. Actually, if should first be a KDELibs bug since that is where the system wide MIME types reside. I still get a list of missing MIME types, some of which are KDE.

I will work on this first for KDELibs. The obvious question is which of these MIME types should KDELibs include. But, first I need to see where the KDE 'desktop' files requesting these files are originating and if they are in the current 3.5 BRANCH release.
Created attachment 16521 [details] MIssing MIME types Looks like we need to start here. This is a list of what is missing after an new install without aRts. I presume that these MIME types should be added by that part of KDE that installs the 'desktop' file. So, I will break this up into separate bugs.
*** Bug 149298 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
The WARNING was removed in release mode, it's just a debug message now, and has to be fixed by the individual app maintainers (I went through quite a lot after the switch to shared-mime-info, but there are still some wrong mimetypes mentionned in desktop files; this report is too generic and too old to be useful though).
Might I suggest that the current long list of stuff only be shown if you use a: "--verbose" command line option. And, the WARNINGs should still be available. Otherwise, how is a user supposed to trouble shoot his system. Again, the solution is not to remove them but only tho show them if the "--warning" command line option is used. I do wish that old bugs could be resolved as OBSOLETE. Yes, this but is too old, but the issue of missing MIME types remains and I will open a new bug for missing KDE MIME types and additional ones for other packages as needed.
