Description mick.lister 2004-01-25 19:49:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: I Don't Know
OS: Linux

newbie to Ark Linux, trying to configure a windows xp shared printer, on initialise of print manager the following error occurs:

Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: the IPP request failed for an unknown reason.

Tried several times, Printer is epson cx6400 shared on existing network. I can see shared network resources on linux machine, so network connectivity appears ok.

Thanks

Check your /etc/hosts file, and make sure that it reads:
``127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost"
CUPS can be very nitpicky about hostnames not being resolvable, and in most cases I've seen with that problem, it was a hostname issue.

Be sure that the CUPS server is running on your machine ("ps -ef | grep cupsd").

UNCONFIRMED (batch reassigning messed this)

No news from reporter, assuming fixed - probably just a config error anyway
