Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux Using kpdf, or KGhostView (acroread fails with some plain_text filter issues when printing to kprinter) printing a pdf-document some images do not get printed. I thought it was the colour-ink, but it also happens with black/white images and in gray-scale mode. It seems to be the way that a certain format of pictures is not printed. I will attach a test-file of which e.g. page 3, 4, 5 and some other are not printing correctly, i.e. leaving out images. I use KDE 3.2 RC1, Suse 9.0 and a HP Deskjet 660C
Created attachment 4341 [details] pdf-ducument with images on pages 3, 4, 5 ... that fail to print
Does it print in "gv"?
Did not have that one installed, did so, printed and it came out fine. I tried page 4 of the document attached to the bug.
The fact is that I could print page 5 of your document without any problem on a printer here (PS printer). Did you try to change the printer driver? From kghostview, if you print to a PS file, then print this PS file using "lpr" command-line utility, does it work? Michael.

No, I am using the Hewlett-Packard drivers that come with suse, how can I change to some other driver, I do not know of any for the HP printers. >> From kghostview, if you print to a PS file, then print this PS file >> using "lpr" command-line utility, does it work? I must correct myself in this case. I tried today to print page 5 with kghostview and it DID work, even without first printing it to a file. However kpdf still does not print the image, even if first printed to a file. Sven

You can change the printer driver from the print manager. After having selected the printer model, if more than 1 driver is available, you should be asked which one to use (this happens in the add printer wizard). However, from your description below, this shouldn't change anything. > >> From kghostview, if you print to a PS file, then print this PS file > >> using "lpr" command-line utility, does it work? > > I must correct myself in this case. I tried today to print > page 5 with > kghostview and it DID work, even without first printing it to a file. > However kpdf still does not print the image, even if first > printed to a > file. Then the problem is in kpdf. When printing to a PS file, kdeprint does nothing except copying the data generated by the appliction to a file. If this doesn't print, this means that the generated PS is faulty (or at least that the underlying printer driver cannot cope with it). As kghostview can print the file, I'd guess that the problem is in kpdf. From kpdf, if you print to a PS file, then view it (with gv or kghostview), do you see the images? Michael.
> From kpdf, if you print to a PS file, then view it (with gv or > kghostview), do you see the images? No, opening the .ps file results in the same view as the actual print from kpdf, i.e. no images. I also found that when I tell kprinter to print the page I am viewing when printing from kpdf, it prints the one before the actual page I am viewing. I will file that separately. I am also gonna attach the ps file I created with kpdf, in case that helps. Sven
Created attachment 4883 [details] ps file created with kpdf This is a print-to-file print of page 5 of the separately attached pdf-document with missing picture, which should cover the whole of the page.
Redirecting the bug to kpdf as it doesn't seem to be kdeprint's fault. Indeed, when printing to a PS file, kdeprint simply copies what coming out from the app (the PS data) to a disk file. The problem is the generated PS data itself, which is outside kdeprint.
The printing problem is with KPDF, as an example of this bug take the Troll Tech QT white paper (http://www.trolltech.com/pdf/whitepapers/qt33-whitepaper-a4.pdf). This document prints fine from KGhostView but in KPDF not only are some of the images missing, but the fonts are incorrect as well. This was using the same printer on the same machine, so it has to be KPDF. The version of KPDF I used was 0.3, the version of KGhostView was 0.2 and KDE is 3.2.2.
This seems to be fixed in the kpdf version I got from Albert Astals Cid (see bug 76057).
