Description Remko Scharroo 2004-01-22 14:28:56 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

OS: Linux SuSE 9.0
KDE 3.1.95 (3.2 RC 1) from SuSE RPMs

When opening the K-menu in kicker, the different "folders" like "applications", "preferences" etc., do not show the little triangle to indicate that they are expandable. When clicked, however, they do expand, although the sub-menu appear a bit away from the rest. There is a gap there.

The sub-menus properly contain the triangles and expand properly right next to the rest.

This worked well in KDE 3.1.5

I can confirm this bug. It's very tricky one, I now have those triangles, but couple of hours ago they were missing. And I have configured nothing.
qt-copy version 3.3 from 2003-12-23, KDE_3_2_BRANCH from Tuesday.

I noticed the triangles appear when there are no 'Most used applications' in the menu and they disappear as soon as I enable viewing of most used applications. Could it be the string 'Most used applications' is too long causing the triangles to move to the right without properly resizing the menu itself?
Comment 6 Ron 2004-02-05 00:12:48 UTC
No, take a look at the screen shots for bug 74049.

Comment #4 shows the arrows and is quite wide. Comment #3 shows no arrows with a 'Most Used' and Comment #1 shows the arrows being cut off, the width of 1 is just slightly more than 3. Just doing another test, with 'Most Recently' there is no arrows but with 'Most Frequently' there is. The width of the actual menu is slightly longer with Frequently because one of the app names was long. If you totally disable that upper section the arrows work fine.

It appears as though when the upper section is enabled and the width of the menu is not long enough it cuts off or completely doesn't show the arrows. Is there some code somewhere making it need a minimum distance between the end of the names of the menu entries and the arrows? Maybe if the minimum distance isn't met that distance should be lowered or the menu widened.

Just some thoughts.

You can replicate this bug if you switch the menu to "Only names" mode. In "Description (Name)" mode it disappears. You can configure the modes in the kicker control panel.

This bug persists in KDE 3.2.0 (Feb 6)

When ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc is deleted, KMenu looks okay for some time, but the arrows disappear as soon as something is changed.

However, they stay put when the Image to the right side of the Menu is deactivated.

Hey John, was there a CVS commit that fixed this? Just curious if a patch is available for this fix.

Been using 3_2_BRANCH for quite a while, but now i got the problem too!
my build on 2004-03-26 was fine, but now on 2004-04-04 i have the bug.
Comment 16 Wolfgang Scheicher 2004-04-05 16:32:17 UTC
Strange - it seems to be fine again, but i have no idea why it appeared and why it dissapeared again. maybe it was just coincidence...
Comment 17 Tom Kiermaier 2004-04-20 21:25:38 UTC
The menu is getting cut off. I think this is a direct effect of the fix for bug #77545. The menu grows larger as it did before but the menu is no longer drawn larger so it cuts off part of it.
Comment 18 Henk Poley 2004-04-27 22:37:57 UTC
Yes, this bug should be reopened for KDE 3.2.2 ...

It's much the same as before, only the symptoms are the other way around. The more quick start entries at the top the more you see from the little triangles.

I'm running an up to date Gentoo install, so QT (like mentioned in bug #77545) ought not be the problem.
Comment 19 Stephan Binner 2004-04-27 23:45:06 UTC
No need to reopen, see #77545.

Menu with side image

Image withsideimage.png shows that the expansion triangles are gone when you
use a side image on the menu

Menu without side image

Image withoutsideimage.png is taken after "Show side image" in the panel
configuration is switched off. See, now the menu is back to normal.
Comment 22 Remko Scharroo 2004-06-02 19:52:38 UTC
Yes, this bug needs to be REOPENED, it is back in KDE 3.2.2
I have: KDE 3.2.2, Qt 3.3.2, SuSE 9.1, Keramic Style
I upload two images:
withsideimage.png and withoutsideimage.png
It shows that the bug is active when a side image is used.
Comment 23 Stephan Binner 2004-06-02 20:06:00 UTC
Invalid reopen, see comment 19.
