Description mal 2004-01-20 19:18:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

goto http://www.ci.las-vegas.nv.us/trafficcams/default.htm
and see if any of the traffic cams work. I tried this site with Opera and Firebird and the same ( sun ) java install and they work OK. In Konqueror the applet seems to start but the video stream never connects.

For me these video's work when enabling 'Use KIO' in 'Java & Javascript' settings, can you confirm that?
It's unclear why the video's don't start in the old Java IO mode..
Nice site to tune this KIO usage btw.

I couldn't get it to work any how with Sun's jre - with or without KIO
So I downloaded Blackdown jre and it works fine.

I don't know what this means ( since I am a humble user not a programmer :-) but the Sun jre worked on Opera and Firebird and not on Konqueror.

It also doesn't work with the jre that comes with Suse 9 (see below)

/usr/lib/java2/jre/bin>./java -version
java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode)

I have no preference, so now I know how to get around it I'm happy but I guess there will be plenty of other unhappy campers who don't want to try every jre they can find to get it working, so even if it's not a bug it's a odd eccentricity.

If you want me to try anything else just yell

There is one nasty thing with configuring Java settings, and that is that the new settings are used only when a new JVM is launched. So if you change a setting for Java, make sure you don't have a page with an applet open, wait for a while (that is the 'Applet Server Timeout' setting and/or check if java is not running with 'ps'), and then go to a page where you want to test the new settings.
I suspect that is the case here. I run Sun Java 1.4.2 too and can reproduce this change (with or without 'Use KIO') every time.

Yet another page that works with 'Use KIO' enabled
