The original English string in libkcal's birthday resource is "Firstname Lastname's birthday", only the German translation puts "Geburtstag von" in front of the name. This is not really a translation problem. Developers should always be aware that the word order in non-English languages can be different (and that strings are often _much_ longer). In this case, the only German alternative which is grammatically correct would be "%1s Geburtstag" -- but (as a non-developer) I'm not sure if the variable would still work with the letter directly attached to it. Also, without a comment, no translator will be aware that word order could play an important role here.
To make things even more complicated: In German, the above alternative ("%1s") wouldn't even be correct for lastnames ending with "s". In this case, the correct form would be "%1'". Only thing I can do is something crude like "%1 - Geburtstag". Anyway, a comment (or an UI/Layout change) would be great.
I will change the german string to "%1 - Geburtstag". This is not the perfect solution, but it solves the bug. Also i move this bug back to the korganizer team. A UI change adressing this bug would be nice.
