Version: 0.7.94 (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux When I have two partners in my contact list with same name, but from two different protocols, and each of the contacts has the same entry in my addressbook, and kopete has been set up to display messages from the same partners in one window, kopete just don't do the job. When I'm talking to 'user1' via iCQ, and I get a message from that 'user1' but via MSN, kopete displays two chat window. This is bad, because kopete should create a new tab (in the already existing iCQ chat window) for the MSN chatting.
Subject: Re: [Kopete-devel] New: kopete doesn't display the messages from the same partner in one window Isn't this already there as 'group chats by meta contact' or so?
I can't find another bug report which is reporting this problem...
Subject: Re: [Kopete-devel] kopete doesn't display the messages from the same partner in one window No, I mean, don't we have this feature in Kopete somewhere already?
Yes, kopete has this feature, but it is not working (for me?). That's why I'm reporting it as a bug.
Settings --> Configure Kopete --> Behavior --> Chat --> Group messages from the same metacontact in the same chat window. You have this exact option enabled?
No, I don't mean that. There is that list of options. There are five Radio buttons. And the last one is the "Group messages from the same metacontact in the same chat window" (I think, but I don't know exactly the english name of the options, because I have hungarian kde). What I know, is that I am talking about the second option. Maybe in english: "Group messages from the same partner in the same chat window". That is not working as I've described it above.
Aha, that is your problem. The option you want is the *third* option. The second option groups chats by what account you are chatting from, so all of your chats using one of your ICQ #s will all go in one window. Maybe a bad translation? Can you confirm that the third option does what you want?
Don't know. Now I'm very confused :). I understand the third option, but it displays all of the messages (from all accounts, and from all partners) in one window. I was looking for an option which makes kopete display all messages from all accounts in one window, but only if they are come from the same partner. For example if I have two 'JohnDoo' users, one is for MSN, and one is for iCQ, then I get the MSN's JohnDoo's and iCQ's JohnDoo's messages in one window, but in separate tabs. Would you please tell me what is the difference between the second and the fifth option?
Subject: Re: [Kopete-devel] kopete doesn't display the messages from the same partner in one window Sunday 04 January 2004 14:09 > Would you please tell me what is the difference between the second and the > fifth option? I do apologize, I typed third but I meant fifth. The fifth option is indeed the one you want. The second option groups all messages coming from your same account in one window. For example, if you have one AIM account and one ICQ account, then all of your ICQ chats will go in one window, and all of your AIM chats in another. The fifth option does what you want :) Vertu s
Then this is really a translation bug. My second option tells me in Hungarian, that if I have two or more partner with the same names, then all messages from that partner (regardless of which account they are on, or which metacontact they use) will go into one chat window. This is what I need exactly. But it seems that this is only a mistranslation, and in the second option we (in Hungary) should use the account word, instead of the partner, because (if I understand you) the second option will group the chat windows depending on my accounts. So if I have two iCQ account (with different iCQ numbers), and have the second option checked, then I'll get *two* chat windows, when talking via those iCQ connections. Is this true? And with the same situation, but with the fifth option checked, I'll one chat window for all of my iCQ numbers. Is this also true? Thanks!
You understand correctly. The fifth option, however, means that if you talk to the same metacontact using two different connections, whether different accounts on your end or different accounts on theirs, will be put in the same window. For example, say you have two metacontacts on your list, Bob and Joe, and you talk to each of them on both ICQ and IRC. Then you would have the two chats for Bob in one window, and the two chats for Joe in another window.
I've forwarded this to the kde-i18n-doc mailing list. You may be able to find a better place that's hungarian-specific to report it to, but I think it should get to the right place...
Thank you for your help, and sorry for the inconvenience.
Subject: Re: [Kopete-devel] kopete doesn't display the messages from the same partner in one window I can't test because I don't have any translations installed, but you could try running Kopete in English by starting it from the console with KDE_LANG=en kopete See e.g. http://kde.ground.cz/tiki-slideshow.php?page=Environment% 20Variables&slide=5 or google for KDE_LANG. If it's indeed a translation bug then this report should be reassigned to the Hungarian translation team.
