Description Thomas Zander 2003-12-11 15:09:38 UTC
Version: 1.5.94 (using KDE 3.1.94 (CVS >= 20031206), compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 (Debian)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.19

When a new email arrives in the box (even same tree) I am reading the tree is updated correctly, but the text area shows the first email in tree/box.

This looks like a regression and linked to: 45614

I noticed this on IMAP folders only.

Thomas, are you still seeing this? I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean here.

I don't run HEAD so I can't really comment if it works; I'll try to explain better.

A folder that has a (threaded) email structure like this

+ emailA
..+- emailB
..+- emailC
....+- emailD

Select emailD and 'wait' for an email to arrive that will be added to this thread (when it has the same subject for example).
Do a check-mail to let kmail notice this new email.
Notice how the above drawn threading is updated correctly to show the new email

Notice that while emailD was showing before the check-mail, afterwards the emailA is the one displayed in the text area.

Thomas, I'm utterly unable to reproduce this with HEAD. I've tried with a couple of combinations of subject threaded and non subject threaded threads and all kinds of positions in those threads. Each time the current mail stayed active and selected when new mail in the thread arrives. I'll close this bug, but if you run into it again with a current KMail, please reopen it.

I think there is a bug report for this that is about dimap - can't remember which one and it doesn't seem to be marked with dimap, or it doesn't exist.

For dimap, this happens all the time. Take any empty folder, sync and get some email, when the sync process gets to the current dir, kmail "forgets" what mail it was looking at when this mail is uploaded (I guess).

Ok, reading this I can see that what I wrote makes no sense without a bit more info. Fixed problem description:

I have a kmail-devel folder that my kmail filter delivers mail from the mailing list into. Suppose this mail folder is empty and that I choose this folder in the treeview. I now sync and get some kmail-devel mail that is filtered into the current folder. Since the folder used to be empty, when the first filtered mail arrives, this will be shown in the readerwindow. Now, when the sync later gets to this folder, the mail I'm looking at will somehow be unchosen, and something else chosen but sometimes not shown. I haven't tried coming up with a pattern for this.

Sometimes this has a very bad implication, since if I'm reading this mail and press Reply, it has two times happened that I'm suddenly replying to something I did not intend to reply to. One of the times I even sent the mail :-(

Thomas, Bo, are you guys still seeing this?

With 3_3_BRANCH, yes, I still see it.

A third shot at a precise problem description:

I have a kmail filter that puts kde-cvs mails in my kde/cvs folder. Now I do this:

- delete all mails in the folder, so I have a nice clean one
- a cvs mail comes in and goes to the folder while syncing INBOX
- this mail is now chosen as the selected one
- the sync process comes down to the cvs folder, and while the newly selected mail is uploaded, it still looks selected in the mail list, but the readerwindow is now empty

To see the mail, I have to leave the folder and come back. It's slightly easier if two mails arrive, since I can just choose the other one and then get back. (i.e. however the way, I have to choose another mail for the readerwindow to show something again.)
