Description J E Drews 2003-12-03 02:13:05 UTC
Version: 1.5.93 (using KDE 3.1.93 (CVS >= 20031111), compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20020320 [FreeBSD]
OS: FreeBSD (i386) release 4.9-RELEASE

I tried to drag n' drop two *.rtf documents I sent home from work, into Konqueror. Both documents showed up as "unknown.png". The same action happens if I drag and drop the *.rtf documents onto the desktop.

I am using a POP3 mail account with SMTP.

To reproduce:
1) download an e-mail that has an *.rtf attachment.
2) Drag and drop the attachment to the Konqueror file browser or the Kde desktop.
3) The the dragged *.rtf displays as "unknown.png" .

NOTE: I can open it directly from Kmail and the document displays normally. I can also do a "save as" from the mime tree and that works.

This bug report is similar to bug No. 68673

The platform is FreeBSD 4.9 Release

Is this maybe a duplicate of http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65553, i.e. does it only happen if you drag the icons but not if you drag the text next to the icons?

Hello Ingo:

No it happens no matter where I click on the attachment. I tried clicking on the text and clicking on the mime symbol. I both cases the resilt of the drag and drop is still "unknown.png".

Can you please provide a message which demonstrates this problem?

Ingo:

Here is the document that shows up as "unknown.png", when dragged from Kmail
to the Kde desktop.

I can't reproduce the problem with the latest development version (1.5.94). I assume that the bug has been fixed. If you should be able to reproduce the problem with KDE 3.2 Beta 2 (or later) then please reopen the bug report.

I'm seeing the same effect on FreeBSD 5.2-BETA, using a homebuilt KDE 3.2 Beta 2 build of kmail/kontact.

Steps to reproduce:

View Ingo's message to kde-pim (Subject: [Kde-pim] [PATCH] Fix bug 69656 (kmail quits after sending a message from the tray) and Message-Id: <200312071827.51206@erwin.ingo-kloecker.de>)

Click on the attached diff, opens correctly in kompare.
Drag the attached diff to the desktop, select "Copy here" and it's created as "txt.png" which is a 48x48 PNG file (attached).

Forgot to say, my build was with fully patched qt-copy, and using GCC 3.3.3

Sorry for the noise, after retesting _again_ it is bug:65553 I am seeing.

According to J E Drews this is not a duplicate of 65553. Andy OTOH confused what he experienced (namely bug 65553) with this bug report. I'm sorry for the noise that the following status changes will cause.

Re-close as WORKSFORME for now.
