Description Shaheed 2003-11-18 17:49:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

It would be very useful to be able to set defaults for alarms as follows:

1. Events to generate alarms by default

2. A default sound for an alarm.

Ideally, these would be set using the kcm for system notifications...I presume this would simplify the implementation. It might even make sense to have different defaults for different kinds of events.

This can be done most easily by templates. We'll have to provide a default template, too, which is used to all new events...

Still present in 3.2.2 per automatic mail from bugs.kde.org

Two-and-a-bit years on, are we any nearer a solution to this... having to remember to turn alarms on for *every* appointment is a pain (I only put things in the calendar if I need an alarm for them... if I didn't need an alarm, I wouldn't put it in the calendar!)

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

I was looking for a way to turn on the reminder per default for every new event that I create. I have missed a few meetings in the past because I forgot to turn it on manually (and this was not only once a reason to look for alternatives to Korganizer).

After quite a long search I finally found this bug and concluded that this simple functionality is just not implemented and not the fact that I can't find it in the program.

Maybe the initial idea to use templates to implement this asked for too much. The simple implementation would be a configuration option in the "Korganizer Time Configuration" that says "Turn on reminder for new event" and a yes/no tick box and use this information when a new event is generated.

If someone decides to spend the time on implementing the templates idea then all the preferences (Default duration of new appointment, default reminder time, and the proposed Turn on reminder for new events) can be rolled into the templates. But this is a big change and this is probably the reason why this request was not implemented in more then 2 years.

this would also be useful for Todos. I would be happy with either a configuration to turn on reminders by default or ability to read in new default template when creating new events or new todos.

Are there any news about this feature? It seems like an easy thing to do. All that is needed is the ability to set a default template for calendars. But at the moment I cannot see how to achieve this

Having an alarm by default on events and to-dos can now be configured:
Menu -> Settings -> Configure KOrganizer -> Time and Date -> Default values -> Enable reminders for new events / to-dos.

Works for me since Debian KDE 4.5.3 (KDEPIM 4.4.7) packages (probably some earlier version as well).

Isn't this bug resolved?

Looks like this wish was granted 10 years ago.
