Description Philip Scott 2003-11-05 13:09:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.93)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r2, propolice)
OS: Linux

Hello there,
Having complied my shiney new kde and firing her up for the first time, I went to go and fiddle with some settings, and to my supprise, inside the control center there are no modules. The window comes up as expected, but there are no icons in the frame on the left hand side as usual (the index, search and help tags are still there, its just that inside 'index' there are no icons')
I have tried using several different users, even creating a brand new user with an empty home directory, all to no effect. Oddly enough, the modules themselves actually exist e.g.:

kcmshell fonts

Opens up the correct fonts configuration dialog. I have two versions of kde installed (3.1.4 and 3.2beta1) so I thought perhaps kcontrol was finding modules from 3.1 or something, but there is nothing in the environment that points to the installation directory of 3.1 (/usr/kde/3.1):

env|grep 3.1

Only gives me something about sgml version 3.1 which I assume is irrelevant. kcontrol still works okay in 3.1.4. Note that I am using LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/kde/3.2 and not putting it in /etc/ld.so.conf, so I can easily switch between versions using a script, but I don't think this should make any difference.

Anyhow, keep up the good work.
Who knows, it might just be my system being wierd (it wouldn't be the first time) and it's not the end of the world, as I can still get at the modules I need to using kcmshell. It's just a bit of a pain thats all.

Kind Regards,
	Philip

This bug appears to the "user" not to the "root" in my case and i suppose since the last online-update
