Description Willi Richert 2003-11-04 09:06:13 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.93)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

After doing "rpm -Uvh *.rpm" on the 3.1.93 version and restarting KDE there have been quite many little bugs:

- The splash dialog (N7H image) is always displaying 0%, and it has to be clicked to go away.

- The applications in my K-Menu are lost

- kcontrolcenter does not show any stuff in the left pane

- Opening a website using Alt-F2 opens the "Which application to open ith" dialog.

I think it has to do with the global KDE bindings, since e.g. even the kaddressbook-icon in kmail does not work, although Alt-F2 "kaddressbook" does.

Nevertheless, of what I've seen, I'm very impressed. Go on!

point 2 and 4 gets fixed, when you install the "desktop-data-SuSE" package from noarch. Or do a "cp /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu.kde /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu" .

I have no idea about the missing kcontrol items yet, but I have the problem here also.

(this is documentated in the README file).

did kwin started for you ? there are reports that it might not start, which could be the reason why ksplash does not close.

After completely rebooting my PC kwin did not even start. I forgot to mention.
I've done rpm -Uvh --force my old kde-3.1.3 so I cannot test any more. Will
try again with knoppix-rudi if it emerges.

Lubos: about the not starting kwin:

it was started by ksmserver before, now it seems only to get started by the first-time kpersonalizer hack in the kde startkde script (which does not exist in the suse kde script). So it only gets started via the session management later (if it is enabled).

Shall I also add that hack for the suse startkde or should this get fixed in the kde cvs ?
