Description Stephen Murphy 2003-10-25 15:03:05 UTC
Version: 3.1.4 (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

When viewing the CCNA v3.0 course materials (English) on http://cisco.netacad.net the flash animation in the large left hand frame is sometimes sized much too small for the size of the containing frame. Using the 'zoom in' option on the Flash popup menu does zoom in, but the animation continues to occupy a thin strip at the top of the frame.

The site exhibits does not exhibit this problem when viewed with Mozilla 1.5

To get straight to the problem try this link:

http://curriculum.netacad.net/servlet/org.cli.delivery.rendering.servlet.CCServlet/SessionID=10670864941784,LMSID=CNAMS,Theme=cnamstheme,Style=ccna,Language=en,Version=1,RootID=knet-CV1053022401441,Engine=static/CHAPID=null/RLOID=null/RIOID=null/ch9/main.html

Once there click the next page button at the bottom right hand side of the window. The page that is now displayed should illustrate the problem.

No permission to access that url, cannot reproduce on any other site with CVS-HEAD. Reopening 66591 for other reasons.

Hi all,

I know that this bug is marked as resolved/invalid for a long time now but I currently have the same problem with KDE 3.3.1 at the moment (Gentoo Linux, latest updates): the flash animations in Konqueror are tiny and in the upper left corner. When I view them with Firefox (1.0pre) it's all perfect. As an example please go to this URL (weather forecast for Iceland):

http://www.mbl.is/mm/frettir/vedur/

In Konqueror I have to use the context menu of the flash player to zoom in several times until I can see what is displayed. Any ideas what can cause this problem? Strangely enough I don't see the problem at work where I use Debian GNU/Linux with a self-compiled version of KDE 3.3.1. But since Gentoo Linux also compiles from source...

I'm also experiencing some offset problems with embedded Quicktime movies using Crossover (they're placed too far in the upper left corner). Maybe these problems are related and somehow caused by Crossover?!

Sounds like an XEMBED/QXEmbed problem to me.

Hi George,

Thank you very much for your quick reply/analysis. Is there something we can do about that problem like reopening this bug, creating a new one, checking the code...? Unfortunately I won't be available during the next two weeks but after that I'm willing to help in whatever way I can to solve this issue.

Regards, Stefan.

Reopen it with a well-defined testcase when you get a chance.

Hi George & all,

Today I did some additional tests regarding these incorrectly sized flash animations because I could not think of a reason why they play/look fine on my Linux box at work but not here at home. And I found the reason eventually: CrossOver Plugin/Office with the (Windows) Flash Player installed.

At work I was using the Linux Flash Player plugin and at home I'm using CrossOver Plugin/Office (with the Windows Flash Player installed without realizing that). Today I installed CrossOver Office 4.0 on my office box to test iTunes on Linux (works great :-)) and "accidently" also installed the Windows Flash Player. Suddenly all flash animations were incorrectly sized (very small).

So, if you ever run into incorrectly (small) sized flash animations, check if you have CrossOver Plugin/Office installed with the Windows Flash Player (NPSWF32.dll). If so, disable/uninstall that plugin, install the Linux version instead, do a rescan of the plugins, and all works fine!

Conclusion: No real need to reopen this bug, and thanks for listening :-).

Regards, Stefan.
