Description Jarne Cook 2003-09-26 07:37:33 UTC
Version:           2.2.1 (using KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from:     (3.0)
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian prerelease)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-bf2.4

At the moment the only way i see to bind keys is to use the "Keyz" plugin.

Unfortunately ... as the description suggets ... "global shortcuts for most operations" isnt very usefull ... when you want to for example bind ...
z,x,c,v,b to
back, stop, play/pause, next

ctrl-alt-shift-right ... for next? ... yeah .. right.

what would be nice is if noatun had a "_non_-global" keys plugin

perhaps
p = play/pause
s = stop
<- = previous
-> = next
shift <- or -> for forward/back N seconds
up/down for volume

ps ... while im at it ... alt 0,1,2 for 50%,100%,200% is crap .... is should be alt 1,2,3 (or <backtick>,1,2)

over and out

Yes, this is critical priority for me. I cant seek in full screen and its really annoying. Using complicated global key shortcuts just isnt the same. We need mouse wheel and arrow keys to seek like in mplayer and pretty much all xine frontends.

I'm partly on my way of implementing something close to this. Mainwindows will use KDE standard classes for actions like play/pause/next and have their shortcuts accessible through the well known "configure shortcuts" dialog (as visible in most kde apps). That will even work for skinned windows (example: I can press spacebar to pause/unpause playback here).

If I find a good way how to restructure video-playback I can create a generic video-window which will just copy the actions from the current mainwindow and thus have exactly the same shortcuts. But please don't hold your breath on the video part, it's not highest priority for me (I just don't think that audio and video playback should be in the same application, they have different needs on gui-side).

noatun has not been part of the KDE 4 release and is no longer maintained.

KDE now offers Dragon as a video player and JuK as a music player. Additionally, other popular KDE players have been ported to KDE 4, such as Amarok or Kaffeine.

If this issue is still applicable to KDE 4 applications, please add a comment or file a new report.
