Version: 0.92 (using KDE KDE 3.1) Installed from: RedHat RPMs OS: Linux Building kst from the source requires that arts is fully installed (eg. Arts and Arts-devel rpms on Redhat). kst does not appear to use any sound capabilities at all, and arts shouldn't be required. If, in the future, kst has sound capabilities, using arts (and therefore having sound) should be a feature that can be disabled at compile time (eg. ./configure --disable-sound).
Sorry, this is beyond our control. kdelibs was designed to require the presence of arts back in the 3.0 days. Multimedia people say it's necessary, everyone else thinks it's annoying. Hopefully we can change this in KDE 4.0. Until then, kdelibs requires arts, so kst, which uses kdelibs, requires arts too.
