Description flstcboy 2003-09-08 04:50:52 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

A "Send To Submenu is Very Useful in many cases.
it is also known by many "Ex Windows Users" or Users switching from Windows to Linux/KDE.

Anyway. clicking on a file, and just sending it to an Application or Email-Reciepient is really fine!

Thanks

Tere is something like this. FOr example dragging a file to the kmail icon
will open a compose box. Just as dragging a webpage onto a Konqueror icon
will open it in Konqueror.

ah, that is really not bad, but if you have got many open windows on the
desktop, and the top window is your file-browser.. then it people expect to
send the file easily by right-click on the file and choose "Email-Recipient" in
something like a "Send To"-Subfolder.

Well, i have got a Kmail-icon in the Kicker. but, not all people have that.
and, right now i tried out your hint: i drag and droped a file from a
konqueror-file-browser onto a Kmail-Icon in the kicker.. The New Mail from
Kmail opened but, then i found another Bug! the file i draged onto the
Kmail-Icon wasn't attached, instead, the only thing it does was setting up the
"To:"-Address Field with the "path+filename" of the file i just draged before.

The Behavior is similar to dragging the file onto Kmail-Icon on the Desktop.
i will report that bug now.

well, i checked, and i just found the bug is already reported.. it is
Bug: 15285 about drag and drop files onto Kmail-Icon. (of course, i voted for
the bug) :)

but, my opinion is, if generally RMB-Menu is cleaned up, it still would be nice
to have an "Send To" SubMenu, that contains also other Applications, not just
"Email-Recipient", but also i.e. an editor or other things.
sorry, but, Windows has got a really easy solution for that.
there exists a "Send To" folder in any home-directory, and the User just can
create a shortcut into the folder, and then it will be shown inside the "send
to" submenu folder.

something like that would be nice, i.e. a "User Menu" that is editable for a
"left click" onto the Desktop. i mean, like this customization, but, the new
"User Menu" (like Send To) should be able to be performed on a file by
right-click on the file.

the "User Menu" for the Desktop can only start applications, that i already can
start by clicking on an icon on the desktop or kicker or quicklaunch. (well,
that doesn't mean, that it should be removed or changed).

i mean the other feature, to have a user-menu that is able to send the file
directly to a desired application is very usable too. (my opinion)

thanks

There is an actions/service menu already, the main difference is the name; please see
 http://developer.kde.org/documentation/tutorials/dot/servicemenus.html (these go to
top-level in 3.1, actions submenu in HEAD)
