Version:           2.2 (using KDE 3.1.9)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB

The highlighting mode 'normal' actually does no highlighting at all, while I expected it to auto-detect (this is what I believe more user would expect with that name).
I suggest to rename it to the more obvious and more accurate naming 'none'.

yes, more consistent with for example the file types, where we have none, too ;)
