Installed from:    Gentoo
Compiler:          gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r1, propolice)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-gentoo-r6

when only one completion entry is available on CTRL+SPACE, don't show popup, just complete. just make sure it can be undone with ctrl-z or whatever the undo key is.
