Description Patrick Rutka 2003-07-05 13:28:36 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from:    Mandrake RPMs
OS:          Linux

I would be Kool to have un shortcut to change selected kwin (screen) directly with keyboard. Because it's borring to move mouse to other screen and select a app (or click on kicker) to activate this kwin (screen).

Possibly needs bug #61606 done first.

Hello,

I'm not sure I understand your request. But it is possible to select windows by toggling
the Ctrl and Tab (i.e. Ctrl + tab) keys on the keyboard, instead of using a mouse. I
apologize if my suggestion has nothing to do with your request.

No. Ctrl+tab only swtich windows .... not screens (don't forgot that is in
multi-head config)

Hello,

Forgive my confusion, but I still do not understand what you mean by 'screens'. However,
if you want to switch from one window application to another, you can toggle the Alt and
the Tab key (i.e. Alt + Tab) to achive that. My apologies if I'm way off again.

For me (sorry for my english) a screen it's like my 19" inches screen or my 14"
inches screen. On each screen is running a kwin (kde windows manager) and on
these both kwin are running windows. With Alt+[shift]Tab you only switch
between windows on the same screen. For exemple on my first screen (my 19") is
running : noatun and konqueror... and on the other screen (14") is running
kword and kate. Now I am on my first screen on noatun (noatun) is the selected
windows if I do alt+tab I only switch between Konqui and noatun. But I want to
use kate. For now with the kde 3.1.3 , I must take my mouse and going to my
second screen and click on kate to have kate activated. What I mean in this
wish for kde, it's having a shortcut to switch between Kwin. So with this, it's
like that : I am on my first screen; alt+k+tab (or other shortcut) to go to my
second screen (or other screen if y have more than to screen); and ALT+TAB to
switch between KATE and KWORD... It would be kool to have somewhere the latest
activated screen on a kwin. Voila!

It's possible to have a shortcut to switch screens ? It's seems to have in memory in kwin (maybe) the last windows activated in that screens.. or if any windows is visible .. kicker ? It's just to reactivate the discussion of this feature ;-)

ALT+TAB --> windows switching
CTRl+TAB --> desktops switching
[win]+TAB --> screens switching

It's seems not a big feature and can be do without bug #61606...

After more than five years... Multihead is not really supported in KDE and isn't the prevered solution. If it's still a issue for you, please use a xinerama setup.

multihead definitely isn't a thing anymore, closing
