Description Christoph Eckert 2003-06-15 19:23:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

For distributable Scripts, it would be very nice to always have the path to the users desktop in a variable like $DESKTOP; I use some scripts here for me which do useful things like mounting ISO-images on the desktop for browsing etc. But in my scripts, I always know where my desktop is, but this disables me from spreading them via the web to unexperienced users.
OK, I could try to grep for the desktopdir through $KDEHOME/share/ etc., but this is more difficult as when KDE could set $DESKTOP while KDE starts

Other usage: I wrote a script called by hotplug which creates *.desktop-files for my cam, stick etc., but everyone who will use it has to change the path to the desktop, and I cannot one script for many users of the same machine without setting the absolute path for each user.

This is not related to konsole. Ask on the kde-devel mailing list or google for it.
