Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.1) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux If you create a .desktop file, say, for a fish:// url on your desktop, and then try to navigate there through the KDE File Open dialog (common to most KDE applications), double-clicking the file selects the file, instead of navigating to its location.
well, what says it should?
I really don't think this is a wishlist item; it's much more of a bug. Perhaps HTTP URLs and other types should be separated? The reason I submitted this was because a co-worker pointed it out to me. He has shortcuts to LAN resources (fish, SMB) on his desktop, but they are not browsable through the file dialog, despite the presence of the "Network" icon that has been added on the left. To me, the new Network functionality implies that network shortcuts should work.

you can never know if a .desktop points to a file or a directory, so I consider this unfixable
Of course this is a bug. If the design of the .desktop links makes it impossible to implement, then maybe the design of .desktop link is broken. It should definitely be possible to follow .desktop links through the Open dialog. Please reopen this bug.
